Sheeze ... my glasses broke again (2nd pair in 2 years) and I'm getting upset as I'd spent more than $700 for both pairs (okay I have somewhat expensive tastes... I shun contact lens (to me removing it is as good as gorging my eyes out) :bsmilie:

I know some of us here have gone for Lasik op ... I'd like to hear your feedback, advice (my mum doesn't really like the idea), cost involved and the steps I need to take if I've set my heart to do so.

TIA! ;)

Now I'm wearing a weird looking pair which makes me look like a cuckoo so I need to decide soon ... otherwise my kids are going to have fun teasing me! :bsmilie:

that's $350 spent a year in glasses
u'll break even in 14 years at most :)

Just FYI.. you have to sign a disclaimer that the doctors are not responsible for the results of the surgery. So.. if somebody's lasiking ur len... then sneezes.... oops.

Anyway my colleague had hers done 2mths back, 1 was 25 deg over, the other was 25 deg under. So it's not exact nor perfect :)

You can buy a 70-200 IS f/2.8L with that kind of cash, or a new 20D ;)

Dunno how true it is, but I heard that the result won't be permanent. That means your short-sight might come back again. And this time, you won't be able to have another operation again. And no contact lens for you too, cos contact lens doesn't fit the shape of the eyes after the operation.

As far as safety is concerned, should be no problem in good hands.

Prices have come down quite a bit but still will set you back $1.3k to $1.6k per eye.

Check around and see. Good luck!

that's right
in sg it cost around 3.5k now with all the appt fees in
the results are perm depending on how u take care of ur eyes.

if u r daring u can go overseas
3k sgd in thailand includes 1 week in 5 star hotel

jb cost around 2k sgd
i did mine in jb last tues
;)

why don't you check it out with the National Eye Centre for more information?

rumours are, hmm... rumours, you know, seldom true :D

hmm... maybe i shoud consider Lasik when i start working...

Lasik doesn't gurantee exact eyesight. But what it can do is reduce your myopia to the point where you do not need glasses for most or all of the things you do in daily life, including driving.

It's not that bad. With the present wavefront lasik surgery, some can even get 'eagle' vision. That is why some golfers go for it, so that they can see where exactly their ball lands. :bsmilie:

I sent an email to ask for the price and this is what i received:

Charges for the procedure are as follows:
Pre operative consultation and investigation approximately S$200
LASIK Surgery S$1850 ? S$2250 Per Eye with a Senior Consultant*
S$1320 Per Eye with a Consultant
Subsequent post-operative consultation S$ 40-45 per visit(excluding test)

There will be an additional surcharge of S$200 per eye for Wavefront Surgery.

(*subjected to individual doctor surcharge)

Medisave cannot be utilised for LASIK as it is classified under optional operation.

Hopes it help :)

i got mine done when i was in USA 2 years back.
cost US$1400 per eye.
up til now still good. left eye still slightly short sighted (maybe 25deg) coz my left eye is naturally quite dry, right eye is 20/20, or 6/6 as the americans term it.
the operation was very fast. after that go home rest over the weekend, monday back to work.
never regretted it.

I have received a number of PMs asking me where I did mine after my previous thread after posting here.

Here's the full story.

Book at Optimax JB 3 mths ago.
Went for checkup on last mon, Ops last Tues, check up on last wed and drove to KL on thurs (with sunglasses as still bright :)

Here's what most pple will be interested in....COST
100 for eye check to see if suitable
surgery for both eyes 3600
total 3700 (subseq checkups FOC)
with current exchange rate of 2.255 then, it works out to $1640

h/e they just increased price to 100+2290+2290
if you put my name as referral, I can send you back the 100rm cheque per eye
therefore 100+2190+2190=4480
With current exchange rate of 2.275
$1969!!!

Hope this clarifies all those who PM me.
BTW if you go back for annual checkup paying rm50,
enhancement will be free for life

Do they do both eyes at the same time?

And any pain during and after the process?

hey i didnt take very well to contact lens at first as i couldn't imagine putting something on my eyes. Couldn't imagine myself putting them on every morning n taking them off again at nite.

BUT.

I tried contacts after some deliberation...a trial pair...just to give it a shot. Had some probs putting it on at first..but after a few weeks..I got better. It really is so much better n more convenient to shoot with than with specks. n it certainly isnt akin to gorging ur eyes out..u can take them off very easily.

Give it a shot? might be an option.

me too!

i guess it takes time to get used to touching your eyeballs... :bsmilie:

but dont be lazy and take shortcuts from the proper way to clean those contact lenses, or else a nasty eye infection will set in. plus you have to clean and scrub the holding containers regularly and to change them once a year.

once a year? OMG
do yourself a favour and get a new case every month

for permanent lens, the case should be changed more frequently, esp if u use aosept. they give a new casing for each bottle

Best LASIK surgeon in Singapore is Dr Lee of TTSH. He has many many patients. So, book early. Prices are coming down. Is now $1700 per eye.

If LASIK is not suitable, there is this new surgery called WAVEFRONT.

More than 10 colleagues went to him. Moi, no problem coz perfect eyesight. The surgery is pretty fast.

Well paying that much I sure would have thought it was ;) I'm pretty happy with contacts & glasses now. I would be able to afford a piece of the trinities if I can afford Lasik :)
