Well paying that much I sure would have thought it was ;) I'm pretty happy with contacts & glasses now. I would be able to afford a piece of the trinities if I can afford Lasik :)

Well, the trinities aint' cheap either, and there is also no guarantee that it won't front or back focus :) .

But seriously, Lasik has advanced considerably over the years. The tendency for the Lasik surgeon is to err on the side of caution. Lasik involves removing part of the cornea, so the Lasik surgeon is generally more cautious so as not to turn your myopia into long-sightedness. After the first round, the surgeon would advice that you rest your eyes for a few weeks, after which he will then retest your eyes to see if you are still myopic. If it is, a second Lasik procedure is done to 'tweak' the eyes.

I had mine done 4 years ago. Actually, I only did one eye, and it was to correct both high myopia and high astigmatism (my other eye went for cataract surgery). I have been wearing glasses for over 35 years before (since kindergarten actually), and the convenience of not needing to put on your glasses to look at the alarm clock in the middle of the night cannot be overstated.

Hmmm I tend to discourage people from doing lasik. Here is my personal experience.

Did mine a year back at the national eye centre with supposed to be the head of the department. Waited for like 3 months for my turn. had myopia of 800 degrees on each eye. Very high I know but I get really good vision when I wear contacts and can dive with them...but like all who wear glasses, wish for the day I do without. I also have very good night vision before, I can see very clearly in the dark during night missions in the army.

The surgery and all went fine according to the doctor. It took a while londer to clear up but the doctor said that cos my degrees is high to start off with. Was rather happy with the results in the beginning but I realise that I cannot see in the dark. Slowly my vision became worst, my master eye (right eye) is 75 degrees and my left eye is less than that. This caused me some problem and I get dizzy sometimes. ALso in low light to dark conditions, I am very blind, in low light, its very dizzy and it affects the mood also, tend to get very moody and cannot see things go by fast.

One very important point to note is that you loose all side visions. Things you focus on, you can see, but things at the corner of the eye, you loose "feel" of them... you become less observant. Also I ended up with 75 degrees astic... I did went back for a follow up and paid for the full array of tests (there is a free op to further correct) but the doctor said that there was not enuff cornea left for the cut. He can lift my cornea flap and then measure the cornea thickness, and if enuff, do the cut. Else he will just close it back. I op to live with it. Now I am wearing glasses again, thank god that the glasses manage to correct my vision a little. I have heard cases that even glasses will not help. You can just do a search on line and can read the horror stories...I too have read them before the op but thought other wise.

Again, this is just my story. I have many collegues and friends who went for the op and is happy with the results also, you evulate your own risk and think about it yourself. Just my 5 cents worth...

FWIW I'll stick to wearing glasses. I have no problem with that.

Thanks for the invaluable input as well as the comic relief people.

I've decided that I'll need more time to think it over and research (okay I'm quite kia si, besides, I'm not really prepared to upset my cash flow for this unexpected expenditure). Just paid S$420 for another pair of glasses and going by my past experience, it's going to last for another year or so ... it's long enough for me to really think and do some serious research.

Parking the idea for now ... seriously ... heh ... :bsmilie:

good thing too, by then, the price may drop alittle more. :)

here's a positive thought for you: glasses can be a good fashion accessory. guys don't have much means to accessorize as it is. :)
