Pdaf is for the dslr/dslt systems. Mirrorless generally uses cdaf. But pdaf is generally much faster, and much much better at tracking moving subjects.

The new sensors with on-sensor pdaf are much better at locking on focus, etc, but nowhere close to a dedicated pdaf system.

Just wondering if anyone has attached a B+W XS-Pro filter to it and still manage to attach the lens hood also?

If the hood bayonet mount is 'inside' the lens... then the B+W XS-Pro series cannot fit. Please use F-pro series.
Bought 1 49mm and tested with SEL24, 50, 55-210, 18-55mm - all cannot fit hood

The only XS-pro that fits for NEX lens is SEL16, SEL1018 and possibly SEL30 Marco.

Quick review/impressions:

1. Really nice build quality. Metal body (with plastic mount, I think) that is finished to resemble glossy plastic.

2. Focus ring feels better than SEL1855, SELP1650, but damping is quite heavy initially (seems to be getting lighter over time). Definitely not as smooth as SEL24F18Z.

3. The focus ring "sensitivity" (amount of turn to change focus) is a lot lower than other E-mount lenses IMO. Requires more turns than it should.

4. The stepping motor in this lens is very nimble. Focus speed is very fast in good light and when subject is at least a metre away. Feels as fast as SEL24 with PDAF. In less ideal conditions, seeking is quite swift, though not as decisive as SEL24. Can't imagine how much faster this will be if a PDAF firmware update becomes available.

5. Sharp output from this lens - center's good from f/1.8. Corners quickly improve when stopped down. Not much complaints, really.

6. Interesting lens design that uses concave front and rear elements. Lens design is completely different from SAL35F18.

I am not keen to "pre-order" things. If it is good, will just buy one off the shelf when it is launched!

True... but there's already a huge backlog of pre orders when I last checked with Leica SG...
