Haha. Ain't thinking abt tat. Just wanna hear yr tots

Haha I see. I am a fan of Hoya ever since I read this review. Owned both B+W and Hoya filters and I do find B+W easier to clean. Hoya is cheap compared to B+W and for the price I don't mind cleaning it longer lah. Some people have reported Hoya to be easily scratched but I personally have not experinced this before. So long as we use lens cleaning cloth and guve the filter a few burst of air using the blower before cleaning, should be fine. Optically, I don't find much difference lah. Not a pixel peeper. :P

Yeah I would like to hear from those using Heliopan too. Think the review map things out in a very neutral and impartial scientific way. Nothing beats real life user reviews.

Hehe... Pai sei pai sei...

hello all.. do you think it is worth an upgrade from 50mm 1.4 to this? I am sick of using the adapter for A mount. It just adds on to the weight of the camera. I am thinking of selling my A mount Carl zeiss and the 50mm1.4.. prefer to travel with a lighter camera. that is the reason for me to change from the normal SLR to Nex 7.

Interesting. It seems that the test used both the ordinary and 16 coated SH-PMC top of the range Heliopan filters for testing. The ordinary one came in 12/16 and the SH-PMC came in 7/16.

That review is dated 2007.

Since that time, B+W has introduced great high end filters with nano coating, Hoya HD filters now cost as much as B+W filters and as far as I know perform just as well. I am assuming Heliopan has not been napping.

It's a good situation if people such as yourself feel that scratching is primarily caused by improper cleaning. I think if you take pictures in mild climates like within Asia, most filters are not going to have a problem.. the biggest challenges I faced was in moderate to strong wind environment with flying sand and small pebbles. Ever since my first experience with that sort of environment, I never go without filters anymore. My B+Ws have survived. :)

well 35mm is quite different from 50mm. You need to be sure of the focal length comfort factor, the 35mm on Nex is indeed very light and small. Its smaller than the 50mm 1.8 nex. If you prefer 50mm, u should get the 50mm 1.8 instead.

I kind of understand your dilemma, i have the Tokina 11-16m , the SEL 10-18 F4 could have been the perfect replacement , but i think the Tokina IQ still works for me. Slightly bigger , but still bearable and lighter than DSLR setup

hi guys, is sel35f18 worth to buy? in term of iq ? 3 times higher than sigma, will the iq at least 2 times better? can't decide which to get:(

Cost to benefit ratio, definitely sigma :p

someone say sigma no character , don't want to keep upgrading, but not much sample for sel35f18 to compare for its sharpness and bokeh...

Yes I hope that Heliopan has not been napping as well. Else the review will surely damage their reputation and people all flock over to buy B+W and HOYA filters.

Yeah I agree that B+W is one of the best filter brand available and that we should not go without filters.

For myself, since starting photography a few years back, I have travelled to 23 cities in Europe, US, Asia with the majority in Europe (19/23). The most challenging places I go to was in Sarawak hiking in the rain forest of Bako and also in the rain forest of Endau Rompin in Johor. My Hoya filters have served me well so far without any scratches. I have not gone to places like the desert etc. where the strong wind will blow sand and pebbles into my filter so far.

I can confirm that based on my one visit there. Best price I could find + pleasant staff = return customer. :)

Yeah, that's a shameless plug . . . I'm entitled to one every 600 posts, right? ;)
