Seems DSLR marketing has shifted.

coupled with the fact that it has IS, i think its very decent for its price of $3xx. i dont go for top of the end quality, i go for best bang for the buck. because if you chase top of the end you will end up with $30k setup :D

Let's face it: they love the idea of flaunting their dslr, with those kit lens that even the cheapest lens that's not a kit can do a lot better (for canon ppl its the 50mm f1.8) , but they hate quick access camera bags... they love handbags, etc...

So what's wrong with handbags again?? Is it wrong for a lady in office wear to bring a handbag that goes well with her outfit yet can niclude her dslr inside in protective casing coz she's gonna shoot landscape pics after work with some photography buddies?

Hmm... so far 18-135, 55-250 have poor image quality, so they're right... :)

:bsmilie:

arikyeo, the sooner you spend less time looking at "image quality", the sooner you start composing your pictures, the sooner you will produce pictures you can be proud of, instead of having gear that you can be proud of. :bsmilie:

i have seen some people with top end gear producing pictures that my ah ma can do with a pns. on antibiotics, with flu and headache, at that.

So right now, I shall be one of those "crappy" ppl who "degrade" the dslr by continuing to shoot with my kit lens.

Honestly, I'm impressed with the good images with the 50mm f1.4... have you seen the album yet? No harmful bokeh, wide aperture, I don't think I'll need a 50mm f1.2 L lens... only difference I see between the 2 lenses is slightly better bokeh from the 1.2 lens, but the 1 from mine is highly acceptable.

They already put the DSLR and use like a neck tie.

Take photo also like this. :bsmilie:

harmful bokeh? what is that.

no, i can't see your album. and based on your gearwhorism, i seriously doubt the images are anything impressive, frankly.

Lol, he was 1 of the reasons why I got into full manual photography...

Now you push the blame to your dad.

Btw, there are only photography, no sure things like full manual photography.

Get you fact right.

Gearwhorism???? But nothing impressive about his gears.....

Gearwhorism???? But nothing impressive about his gears.....

there are different level of gearwhores...

the ultimate level is where you kowtow to your dry cabinet and spend 80% of your awake time polishing the lenses and carrying out lens tests. you have every single "sharp" lens that people think is sharp, and you can draw out what the bokeh looks like for every lens when asked to do so.

right now arikyeo is at the lowest level - he only know about IQ and "harmful bokeh". he can only rent lenses, not buy them. you must forgive him for being new to the circle of gearwhores. :bsmilie:

i got lots of photo taken in film too.:bsmilie:

did you know that:

(1) different film have different characteristics, and that when you use velvia over provia, neopan over tri-x, you are essentially choosing a "picture style" in some sense?

(2) the greatest film photographers spent quite a bit of time in the darkroom working on how to present their vision to their viewers?

I'm getting tired of arguing with you guys... I don't want another infraction again...

1) 50mm f1.8's bokeh makes anything shining/ bright in the background pentagonal, and the bokeh looks like it has been oversharpen.

2) I'm not trying to gearwhore here; if I did I would have done like what night86mare said + flaunt in kopitiam section as a new thread saying "look at me! I have xxx!"

3) it was true I rented the 100-400 lens, but only because I needed to recoup my losses after my whole canon system got lost.

4) I have indeed bought the 50mm f1.4 usm

5) I would rather we be acquaintances & get along well than poking into each other, please.

Let hope school holiday be over soon. :bsmilie:

most gearwhores don't try, they just express their skewed perspective through their posts and actions.

don't need to flaunt to be gearwhore, you just keep chanting the same old mantras like "IQ IS MOST IMPORTANT", or "KIT LENS LOUSY, NOT FOR SEASONED PHOTOGRAPHERS"... that alone is enough to be labelled a gearwhore.

so that there will be no flare and CA in your kit lens photos? :bsmilie:
LOL :D

BTW, the link is up: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=37161&id=100000750349726&l=80c535f36d

All images were taken only using the light available, NO flash, so if the image is dark I'm only using the light available (just like the concert scene)

Please don't headbutt each other, I learnt my lesson after I got infracted.

Not trying to argue but if it is true of what you mentioned, I'm so so sad with my Contax CZ 50/14 when I saw this.

But how come it can do this which I'm totally in love?

Your #2 image is more pleasing than what I could get from the 50 f1.8...

LOL @ your #1 image :D:D

55-250 have poor image quality

ur so asking to get ur head bitten off:bsmilie:

55-250 is a lens that i'm very proud of, and i dare say its quality is unrivalled for its price too:thumbsup:

What's the use of a dslr if they just use for cam whoring? Its basically overkill... Just like bringing a speedlite 580ex II to a small party with a room twice the size of your average storeroom... :)

u will be surprised how useful the 580ex is in getting controllable light.

point being with my sentence: so what if they use dslr and camwhore? u go up confiscate meh? get over and get used to it. ppl parents rich, wanna buy, u cant stop them. get ur own skills polished, try and inculcate the right attitude. thats teh most u can do

LOL @ your #1 image :D:D

:bsmilie: Just for the sake of fun and the love for bokehs.

Pentagon bokehs or not is depending on the number of aperture blades the lens has and how they close up or widen out. There's nothing wrong with pentagon bokehs. Btw, that lens which I'm having is more than 10 years old and still produces nice shots with its humble 6 aperture blades. :D

My point is not to take everything so seriously to the point of equipments over photographer as it should be the other way round :).

School holidays now so do go out and take more photos rather than comparing equipments bah. Have funz!
