Hehehe... you are right bro, absolutely agree with your analysis, but if you have a friend who like to travel to other "less-developed countries" and would like to give you free of charge in shipping, why we should buy here...

i second that , partly due to MO carry at here. Now the local shop feel the pain include canon sg. Secondary of the exchange rate of $sg.
If don't carry out price reduction,it will benefit other country canon office.
less profit is made in sg.that why end user is alway the king.
if the price is not good at here, why have to paid more. if your can get the same kind of item at singapore include with international warranty come along with and canon sg need to service the lens ,if the lens has some issue in the warranty period.
Most of the L should have some quality level to take along.

Another reason of the ramours of EF 70-200 F2.8 IS MKII or F2.
Even it not firm infor still a ramours once canon announce in the photokina 2008 .
if may not be ramour anymore. canon may announce in the last minute.
that include the Eos 1000D.

it may pair up the the Eos 7D as replacement of 5D.
this happen to the 24-105 F4 IS , which is pair with 5D kits .
Do take note last year, caXoX has register the product barcode for 7D......

Do note the Ef 70-200 f2.8 L IS was release back to year 2003.

Just ten years back we are the cheapest place to get photography gears in this region next to Hong Kong. Haiz Now like every other countries in the region is cheaper then us.

I like to hear when you said that end user is always a king... , Oya when you mentioned about 70-200L IS is launched on 2003, I directly check to my friend, what is the canon lens code, I guess its cheap because of old production. but luckly the code is UW, so it's a 2008 production.

Just replied the same in another thread... $1360 if I remember correctly this include 2% additional for CC :sweat:

24-105 is $1550 from $2.2k+
17-40 is $1030 from 1.25k+

The 100mm macro price already drop last year from $1k+ to the price you mentioned, while some other lens no price drop. Maybe that's the 1st round of price drop affecting some lens, and this time could be 2nd round affecting another group of lens..
