Great catch of the Coppersmith barbets. It is breeding period, the barbet must be feeding the young. Can try to look for the nest.

Thanks madmartian, v0857, daredevil123 and Turbonetics for your kind words! :)

It is usually a hole in a tree. The male and female will take turns going in and out. Only one young baby per nest. Good luck bro!

And if and when you find it. Please respect. Try not to flash. And no continuous flash. Nowadays iso so good. No need flash also. And as per guidelines please keep location of active nest to yourself and do not reveal. ;)

And also don't post pictures of the active nest till baby is gone. Tahan a bit. Good luck bro.

Thanks daredevil123 for your kind advice! Will take note to hide any nesting pictures until the baby grows up.

Have not been using flash for my nature shots so far, prefer natural light... meaning that I'm not good at controlling artificial light ;p
But I do feel that the presence of the photographer and the shutter sounds are already causing significant disturbance to the birds/animals, so I don't think that it is right to introduce more stress by flashing them. So regardless of the benefits that a flash may bring, I will stick to using natural light :)

Think the best tip I can give is to go very early (or maybe during weekdays) when the crowds have yet to arrive. I will usually throw in a sunrise shoot when I go there :)

Not sure I can say which area is best, but my usual route starts from the Dragonfly bridge, pass the Malay, Chinese and Indian Gardens, then down to the Water Lily Pond, Kingfisher Lake and Satay by the Bay.

And lastly, it is quite a nice place for a morning stroll so just take your time and enjoy the place :)

Hello Seadog!

I was planned to go to GBTB yesterday morning after seeing your birdie beauties.
Overslept. Missed the first train. I planned to start with sunrise before walking around hopefully to catch some birdies in action.

Just to check with you. Those birds you have taken (esp those in GBTB), may I know which month(s) of the year?
If you have made multiple trips, can I assume the same birds you have taken before no longer there?

I have hiked around the same area in Yishun for consecutively 4 mornings. Started off at the same time because I wanted to take sunrise first. Whether it was the same tree or bush, I did not see the same birds or any at all that I had taken the day earlier.

Including yesterday morning, after 3 days of absence because I needed to go to work, the varieties getting smaller. As like you mentioned. Just 2. A heron and a magpie.

Thank You
EisMann

nice catch of the Sunbird just taking-off
