high ISO samples. Evening light which is critical as the light is nice during this time.

ISO400. developed from SPP3.1. Auto settings

ISO800. developed from SPP3.1. Auto settings. +13 saturation in PS.

ISO400 is pretty noisy but the colors and details are still relatively ok. ISO800 is pretty desaturated and I had to do some PS :)

Saw those ads from sigma in magazines? The one with the woman's face? Well, the image is truly possible!

BTW, only minor adjustments to exposure. No sharpening needed!

wooo... I like...!
Must really get myself a macro lens...
Now have to decide whether to get the 70mm or 105mm

Whoa.... do your own homework first.... this cam not for everybody. Must think before you shoot ,check when you are shooting and check again after you shoot. my "apple in your eye" shot didn't happen spontaneously. But considering the image quality and price, it's a real bargain to buy it now.

I used the 70mm for that shot. Perhaps you should tryout the 105mm before you decide. BTW, it has a "Dual Focus" feature. Any idea what's that about?

Can't wait to get the macro lens.
Meanwhile this is my version of your shot but taken with a normal non-macro zoom lens (50 -150mm f/2.8) of one of my 'fur-kids'. Can't get closer enough for greater magnification with this lens though. Should be much better with a true macro lens.

dual focus I think is that if you are not shooting macro you can limit the focusing to non-macro distances to improve speed of the focusing. Quite useful I think. I have a 50mm f/2 macro for my E330 and it doesn't have a focus limiter so sometimes it hunts quite some time for focus.

How accurate is the focusing with the lens? Is the AF consistently spot on? I think the toughest part is getting the focus correct.

Actually, I don't think it's the macro that's in play here cause I see your magnification as close to mine but I didn't need to go macro as I had the focus limiter switch on at the non-macro end. I think the sharpness is due to shooting with a prime lense. and as I noticed, this 70mm is a real gem.

Errr, I don't think it's "focus limiter" as I have it on the 70mm macro. It's officially called "Focus Limiter Switch" by Sigma. Dual Focus should be something else...

I agree that the focus limiter switch is useful. It helps shorten focusing time. But accuracy I think is heavily dependent on the cam. Hence, with the switch on, it's a little better. Perhaps a HSM lense would be faster?? Sometimes I prefer MF. Really wish that lenses would have DOF/Aperture scale on them!

Just for kicks.... I've upsample the image to 4920X3280 (around 16MP)

What do you guys think? Acceptable?

This lens is so much fun.:)

These are a few pics from the maiden outdoor shoot of my SD-14 at the National Orchid Garden last weekend. Too bad I did not have a proper macro lens then though. I didn't bring my tripod and really miss not having IS !

the colours of the flowers really stand out clearly! nice! even the blue sky in the 1st pic caught my eyes when i 1st look at it. jus wondering what sigma will come out with sd15 in sep.... ?

I'm staying near the front too... if the front is Ulu Pandan Road, that is. :)

Yeap Ulu Pandan Road. Sometimes sit at the bus stop waiting for bus, then do panning shots there. :bsmilie:

@waycool, nice shots! I like the second one. Very well done.

a wide DR shot.

I am quite pleased on how it handled the sunburst, especially on the blown out highlights. It turned gray SMOOTHLY without any funny color shifts or banding.

There are some noise in the shadows after you life them up but that I feel is a minor issue if there are color shifts and bad handling of blown highlights.
