SD14 users?

If you never experience foveon, it is worth trying.

But do remember to buy the lens as well. As you don't get SA mount easily. The 17-70 DC is a good combo.

Hi all, found that Amazon online is selling Sigma SD14 cheaply. Check out http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-SD14-14...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1241683604&sr=8-5
Just to check, for those that are using this camera now, is it worth getting it since the price is so attractive?
Thanks. :)

Yep, you shld grab it .. it takes fantastic colour pics .. and do remember .. Prices quoted in US$ ? and plus freight charges ... ermmm .. double check ..
cheers

Nice nice.. am using SD14 too .. only thing i wanna check with you guys .. do yours have the problem of "noise" even at ISO100 ? Not necessery night .. even day time slightly darkened will see the patches ... Any observations ??

This is a normal behaviour. When an area is underexposed, it will get dotty, mostly green pixel. The more you use X3 fill the more obvious.

You can always use noiseware professional (on low setting) to clean them up if it gets too visible after PP.

It would be strange if these "noise" appear after PP from SPP as they are always removed after processing, or at least for me.

I think you should use the tag around this url - http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2668/3788595077_daceaa748e.jpg - as your photograph isn't appearing.

Yup, it is common when you underexpose. However from my observations, these things did not appear even on high ISO as long as I gave the sensor enough light.

Also be watchful when using CPL filter with Sigma camera. The Foveon need much more light than bayer. Thus CPL will reduce light in shadowed area even more.

anybody know whats the price of sd14 and dp2 locally? when is it available?

Was quoted $1.8k some time back from Alan Photo (SLS), for their display model SD14 with the 18-200 DC. Don't know about AP Funan but they have, last I saw, a SD14 with 18-50 EX boxed set on sale.

Don't know about DP2.

Both the cameras are already available locally.

can some kind soul from the SD14 guru help me out plssss..... :dunno:

1. any 3rd party flash compatible for SD14? i tried my Emoblitz Digital DS328AZ don't work. Nikon SB-600 seems to go hey-wire(keep flashing...)

2. there are some dust on my sensor. can i jus open up the dust protector and blow it as said in the manual? is it costly to send to sigma for cleaning?

3. how do i get those Foveon 3D alike image? is it the settings on the camera or the post process in SPP?

thanks in advance. :)

1. Use Sigma flash
2. Be careful removing the IR block filter. It's very fragile and shatters easily. $85 a pop to replace
3. Use SPP to process. So far I found no 3rd party raw converter that give a better or even equal image quality as SPP.

Too don't know of any compatible flash for SD14.

Don't be overly scared with popping the IR filter, read the manual and gently click it back, if force, it is wrong. It is fragile but if you can handle a microscope glass slide, you can handle IR filter. Keep the back of the IR filter clean prior putting back, you can clean front later after click back.

What do you mean by 3D effect?

I'm not really good with my Sigma but I'll try and make a reply...
1) I'm certain that the hotshoe is able to trigger a certain Canon flash... Not sure of the model though. If you have one lying around, it's worth a try. (Strange that Canon is the 3rd-party in this context)
2) Never done it before, so no comments. :)
3) I found that I could obtain what I think are 3D-like images with 50/100 ISO and exposing the sensor to sufficient light without much PP.

thanks you guys for the kind replies.

am still thinking very hard whether to invest in sigma flash and lenses cos i already have the nikon system/lenses. what if my sd14 dies in near future and sigma stop producing dslr, then all my sigma gears will be worthless...

however, i really love the foveon look sharpness as well as sigma simplicity.

... just wondering if there is any sigma SA mount lenses/flash for rental locally? anybody know?

Same here. I like my Sigma a lot for these. If like me, you only shoot for a hobby and do not want to spend excessively, perhaps you can think about giving up Nikon. I sold the D90 in favour of the SD14.

I read somewhere that Sigma is in the DSLR business for the long haul, even if it caters to a niche market. Also, Sigma recently bought over Foveon and I see it as an insurance that Sigma gives to its camera users. Moreover you should not worry about your Sigma gears being worthless... They are sort of 'of-no-value' the moment you buy them. :)

*notices a new reply* I do not think there are rental services for SA mount equipments in Singapore.

Edits: for my reply to be more readable.

would the sigma guru here mind sharing the list of sigma gears(body, lenses, flash, etc) that you have? ;)
