tio ...e ken rock well site was the site which i saw the back of sb600 n asked jedi about the buttons n GN which he said no one cares abt...haha

Lucky not my son (I would be bitch slapping you..heh).... Worst kind of english used and so prevailing with the younger SMS generation. Too much mandarin speaking and too much SMS. English is down the toilet. If this sound funny now...wait till you come out to look for a job and try to get a promotion with that kind of english. Or when you take your next exams at a higher level. This is not China. Even China folks are learning proper english.

And you wonder why people could not understand your questions sean? This causes even more problem with anyone trying to understand exactly what the heck you are asking. 14yrs and english already that "teruk". I might expect a 30 yr old who left school a long time back to maybe be a little bad with the language. But you are still in school. If you don't have the heart to write properly and clearly to ask a question..it just show you have no heart in really wanting an answer to your problem or question. If people ends up providing thewrong answer, you contributed to the confusion with the way you phrase and ask the question.

Sorry.. I have a thing with my own staff/friends sometime when they write emails and letters in SMS style english (and singlish) even to customers!!!. There is a time and place for everything and if you have a problem switching between them depending on the situation..you and anyone who does this have bigger problems then facing tough photographic problems.

Exactly. But this sentiments have been written to Seanlim many times in his many previous thread.

Seanlim, hope you understand that english is a medium for communication. If the other party do not understand you, then your intentions would have been misread and misunderstanding would occur. You may say that your generation grows up with SMS/shortform etc, but that is not really a reason at all.

Seems like you do not think that you had done anything wrong, why get suan all the time. Look at the other post of people asking questions, they don't get suaned at all, but get the answers instead. Why are you so special? No doubt you may be 14yrs old, but nobody would have known if you had not told us, right. We had all treated you like an adult.

In future, I suggest that you not make an apology and a challenge in the same breath. Do you want to challenge, or apologise?

Even if your English grammar is not to be doubted  , I think you have to work on what you want to express. :sticktong

no its not a challenge. its an apology. but then again i have to make my point known.

Guys, is this my cue? ;)

Reeeeaally close, but not quite ready to slam you yet, so let me try explaining to you again.

If you do believe that you have asked your questions in, as you put it, "a sort of slang way" (my translation: in non-standard English, admittedly vulnerable to some misinterpretation), you should have reflected on what many people have been telling you about - that they have difficulty understanding you. I find it inappropriate for you to retort with the question "what was your english marks?". Was that your point? What was your point? It sounded like a challenge. Then you go on to talk about not wanting to boast about your level of English, even though you admit to having used non-standard English... Point?

I am simply breaking it down for you to understand that your apology did not come without a retort/challenge.

Many people have told you, and many people have told you that many people have told you, that you need to work on your communication.

Your reply has made me think that you do not even realise how you come across to others. I do not enjoy writing negative posts, but I did expend the energy to do this in the hope that you become more aware of your actions and words. If I fail, no worries, so many have failed before me. :)

SB600 is sufficient. SB800 is not tt a great deal if you do not use the CLS. Anyway I feel CLS is not tt important. I would rather use bowens or elinchrome. And I am not really in need for the higher guide number.

If I can do events with a SB600, I dont see why you cant. So save that money if you do not need the extra features of the SB800.

And remember,
Pro equipment DOES NOT = Pro photographer

People always make that mistake. And equipments are supposed to be tools not "items of ego". It is almost purely a matter of skill.

Btw, your threads are always a good source of entertainment to me. Unfortunately, understanding your english is a pain in the neck and can be extremely harmful to my english command.

But what to do, your threads are ADDICTIVE leh...

Fair question...

Well I just passed it with a C. I am also dyslexia which I only found out when I was in my late 20s... I could speak and articulate well in English but I will fail at reading and writing. Teacher always call me a slow leaner. Dyslexia was unheard of in my school days...it was just taken that you are slow or stupid as one teacher once called me. Then I found out I could improve by reading. Lots of readings. I spend a lot of time reading to improve my eye to brain coordination to recognise words.

If you notice, when I type, I make the same spelling mistakes or badly phrase my sentences partly because my fingers and thought process does not coordinate or relate vowel with spellings. So you will notice, I always have the remark "last edited" in the majority of my message in CS as I have to go back to rework the phrases and proof read sometimes as many as 10 times. Why do I do that? Because I want to take the trouble to make my view or advice understood by anyone who reads it. I take the trouble because I think that is the right thing to do. I also write long long message sometime too if I think it is needed to explain a point to help someone. Yes some might call that long winded but given what I have to go through to write messages, I still do it. If I have something to say, I might as well say it as well as I could. And it is also about respecting others.

A photographic forum is not just about experts meeting and helping newbies. Being more experienced does not means we are "obligated" to help anyone. It is about community and sharing the same love for photography. It is about giving and taking. Most importantly not taking anyone for granted. What you asked, you might think should come easy for "experienced photographers or hobbists" to answer you. But it could have taken them years to master, actually invested in equipment or literature, paid money to learned or did all the legwork you were too clueless or lazy to do or experiment yourself. For that you can not even take the time to do your part? If I am to waste my time to help you, I expect some kind of seriousness as well. To know in some way that the advice me or another individual gave had helped you in some way or guide you towards the right direction to start your learning process. You have your part to play too. When in class, if you keep asking dumb questions, you want to tell me your teacher will take it as a joke each time? Or be understanding? I think your teachers will get the impression that their effort to teach you have fallen on deaf ears.

If you want to be taken seriously and that you are earnestly eager to learn, don't you think it would be in your best interest as well as those advicing you to take the time to deliberate on your question(s) so that it reflect accurately what you want answered?

Fine and good if you have higher marks in English then I ever could but are you using it better then me?

Take it from me, most of us when who can help out, we do it not for your money, your praises, your respect, lower yourself to label us as master, expert, wizard or whatever dumb BS title like our lives depend on it...and yes not even for a simple cup of coffee. SO why do we do it? If I have to tell you that...then you really have much to learn. I am not even angry with you. But because you are 14, I am imparting this "grandfather story" to you in the hope you might gain something from it to help you be better. If you were older, I could not be bothered with you. You can drop off the face of this earth for all I care. Trust me Sean...being corking in here is no big deal. Wait till you get into NS. "blanket party" comes to mind if you are corky with your own squad. :)

hey sean, I think it's not just your "slang", it's also your punctuation or, rather, the lack of punctuation ... very confusing

Thanks for sharing. I hope everyone learn something. I did.

I have to be honest here. Every time I see a new sammy888 post, I will make it a point to read it. :) It's like the mark of quality, seeing his nick. :bsmilie: I have often been touched by how much effort he puts into what he writes (though I didn't realise he is dyslexic).

Thanks sammy888, for always imparting good knowledge with your good heart.
