Too close or ?, Vince, go ahead and critique/comment. Need to improve. I tried but this is the clearest I got form a number of attemts shooting at same subject.
Super Macro mode usually works only at the wide end, not the tele end.
Anyway, nice attempts to see the difference between using a short focal length and a long focal length in flower/plant close-up shots. It's not easy to auto-focus on the thin grass and you may want to try manual focus or other focus technique (such as focus at something similar shooting distance away, lock the focus (either half-press shutter button or use focus lock), go to the grass, compose and shoot it from the same distance).
Usually, long focal length is prefered for close-up because it is better to have a very narrow angle+field of view to limit the amount of background objects to be included in the frame and also to have a nicer looking bokeh (as a result of background objects being limited in view and rendered very blur (large and extremely out of focus) due to the long focal length used.)
From my opanda EXIF viewer, can see that your flower was shot at the widest end ....... 6.2mm actual focal length (28mm equivalent) while your grass was shot at the longest tele ....66.7mm (300mm equivalent).
