Thanks alot 25mb is huge indeed :o
wonder if any fuji S5 users shoot raw here?
or most of you just shoot jpegs?

had a look at the shop today after they printed it out. but, rejected it cos the print came out a little too orangy. the shop folks told me mebbe becos they din reset the printer bet jobs. kudos to them tho, for re-doing the print again without hesitation.

still, i must say the 20x30 from s5pro held up well to close inspection. and, the best comment i got abt s5pro's quality was from a chap in the shop. when he saw the print, he asked wat film i used. enuf said, IMO, abt s5pro's quality. :bsmilie:

initialE24 - i'm using the max res. but, the default DPI is 72. so, u need to go into the menu and change the DPI setting under system setting, IIRC. after dat, i used a FredMiranda Stair Interpolation plugin to upsize the pic. the FM plugin, so far, only works with CS2. it automates the process of upsizing - u can do it in PS under adjusting image size, but at small increments. have fun trying. :)

thanks bro....:)

For me, with the S5 PRo, I dont really need to shoot raw. Jpegs already good enough. Unlike the D200, I will need to shoot in raw file under some difficult lighting.

for the heck of it, i did it when shooting my frens' convo pics. the files' sizes are damn scary... on 2GB intel duo laptop, i had to suck thumb for a min or two for CS3 and LR to open up the file.

but the stuff u can pull out from the CCD-RAW is pretty amazing. still, jpgs will do just fine too. :)

I shoot more landscapes/architectures than portraits/people but I don't have a S5 Pro yet (I use D70 but is considering to upgrade to S5 Pro b'cos of its good DR and good colours).

I really feel like proving those Anti-S5-Pro critics wrong who claimed S5 Pro can't shoot good landscapes/architecture. Hey bros, how about showcase some landscape/building shots here to see how well the S5 Pro can do.

Many thanks.

I think I have to make something clearer.

I don't know why Fujifim S5Pro has such ugly stupid noise reduction methods. In other words JPEG is virtually unusable if you don't like the forced noise reduction on your photos.Even if you shoot RAW and process it with original Fujifilm apps, it's still the same case.

Fortunately, there's other programs that you can use to process RAW, and the result is fantastic, and really does justice to S5Pro.

In other words, the reviewer on Dpreview didn't use the right program to process the photos by S5Pro.

For instance, it is pointed out here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilms5pro/page19.asp that there is Super CCD artefacts, which it's not the case if you don't use JPEG from the camera and RAW using any Fujifilm applilcations.

So, I guess this is a lesson which we can learn, that is not to trust a review blindly, just because it's from for example...Dpreview.

After using S5Pro...seriously...it's the one of the best there is. OF COURSE it is SLOW, and the photos are enlarged from 6MP to 12MP if shooting at max resolution. Nevertheless, we are talking about fantastic Dynamic Range, and faithful color reproduction, which is two of the most important factors to a DSLR.

The noise level is also very well controlled, and even at 12MP it's still ok, though the very fine grains are enlarged from 6MP to larger grains. It's really very film like. You can shoot at ISO 800 and above with proper or over exposure to have no worries at all. You will see quite some noise or rather grains, cuz it's really like looking at a fine grain film scan, every detail is there, but it is just grainy (still well controlled) at high ISO level.

That is all provided you don't shoot JPEG, and use the right program for your RAW.

Why bother with the reviews? Just get what you like most or suits you most and shoot more. :)

What program do you recommend to process the RAW files then? CS2?

is there anyplace I can find a side by side comparison for landscape shots between say the S5 Pro and D200 and Canon 5D?

There's no need to compared.

D200 will be slightly better than 5D, most probably 5D will be too contrasty but due to this there may be stronger color here and there. However, due to the difference in the metering D200 will produce a much better image overall, even though I'm just estimating, but it's not based nothing. Still it depends on the settings.

S5Pro will of course literrally 'pwn' all.

IMHO, 5D is not worth its price. It's just a FF, and produces sharper, and less noisy photos than many others. However when it is compared with S5Pro, the difference is obvious, the photo from S5Pro just 'look' so much better.

In most cases, S5Pro makes more room for post processing. This also means that from an uneditted photo which is shot properly, a lot more dynamic range is retained than others, which may cause it too lose some contrast, but there you have so much more room to post process.

silkypix?

http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/english/order/price.html

i've seen it in action over the weekend. i must say the interface is far easier to navigate than LR, IMO.

price is reasonable, compared to a fullblown CS3 or LR - ard $204 for home user license. $38 for additional licenses up to 2 more users. anyone wanna share? ;p

Silkypix or Fuji's own HU3 can do the Fuji RAW files. Their price range very close, I think.

As for comparisons, eh, dpreview should have a lot of dual-systems folk who'd do that. It'll still boil down to user. I know a certain crazy fellow who'd get identical system to mine and he still gets atrociously blacked-out shadows, on his S5 Pro #roll eyes#. There used to be another S5 user (no longer on this forum) who gets white-outs when many people will get blue skies, too. So there you go.

Kindly do a search -- there are lots of comparative posts/analyses out there already. Personally, I find this series of tests by Mark Abraham very, very useful -- not landscape but studio shots that hint at the basic resolution differences between the S5, 5D, D200 and D2x (subject to the usual lens caveat):

Pls follow the link -- you can download the actual full resolution files and see for yourself.

So how good is silkpix for s5pro? any comments? I am thinking of buying the s5 when the price drops to ard $2k... And I already has silkypix :)

silkypix takes some getting used to if you have been using ACR. one thing i noticed is the photo seems a bit more dull when displayed within silkypix...but once i process it to jpeg, it looks very good. not sure why...could be the display settings used by silkypix.

wind30: when do u estimate price will drop to ard $2k? after SEP's IT fair?

... if the price of the other cameras also drop by the same margin .....
