Fuji S5 Pro 400% Dynamic Range (B/W mode, JPEG High) : as you can still see details on both the left and the right side of this image.

D200_DR-test-1.jpg

Nikon D200 (JPEG High) : as you compare this image to the one from S5 Pro, the details on both the left and the right side are either blown-out and black-out.

I have, and still do, maintain that it is the heart and mind that make up the true lens of a camera. The problems that occur are usually standing behind a camera.

He takes good pictures with his coolpix 4500 too.

Funny why one b/w and one Coloured. Dun tell me don't dare to compare the colour output of both system side by side. ;-)

hehe...dun start another war :nono:

:bsmilie:

It is well know that Fuji has nothing to proove on the colour side !

Nikon on the other hand, still need some improvment on the colour aspect.

No worries lah, I am S5 supporter lah. Just donno why he makes comparsions with colour vs b/w mah. :embrass:

oh no
the buying power is strong .. holding on to my wallet :bsmilie:

Ok, Mr Nightwolf, sir. I'll do that with my Coolpix 4500.

But, seriously, to all those who, (1) think I'm some young pup, (2) think I'm misleading young equipment chasers, ...read/think again.

I have used a 10D, a 20D, a D70/D70S, a S2 Pro, a D100, a S3 Pro, a D2H before. And now, have been playing with somebody else's S5 Pro for the last 2 weeks. What I see, I'm contented with. I'm not in the biz of doing equipment comparisons, nor shall I be doing so in the foreseeable future. I do my outings, I do my own work, I do more outings, meet more friends, shoot more, that's it.

The photos I post here to share and show what CAN be obtained from a S3/S5 Pro if some effort is put in and if the conditions are ideal.

If you want to see any camera as a slow slug, you are welcome to it, I couldn't care less. You want to think that a camera and lenses are what makes pictures, you are welcome too. It is your loss.

if u notice the b/w pic produce by the s5pro..just imagine thats a color one.. so much details..shadow and highlights still there man.. on the other hand, if u compare the color pic from the D200..dun even have to think of converting to b/w..

Hi guys

So much discussion about the S5. Was wondering other than the HU to edit S5 RAW data and ease and flexibility, are there any software out there that can do the same?

ie. Nikon has Nikon capture NX

Yeah. As I've said, I am a S5 supporter! ;)

yesh suh... i know. remember last yr ur macro shot of a leaky tap with ur coolpix during ur AG outing, while the rest of us were busy trying to figure out how to do it with macro lenses/close-up filters and watnots? :bsmilie:

oh yeah... in case soldier thinks i'm gunning for him (no pun intended) - nope, i'm not. sometimes, i'm just sadden to read in CS dat, whenever we cannot get a particular shot, the automatic response is the camera's fault. no doubt, there are some things dat are due to technology (like the brilliant colours of fuji - both sensor and their film) which we can't do anything abt. however, by and large, its PLBV. ;)

I have long been in the Nikon camp, but recent reports about the S5's low noise and excellent white balancing & dynamic range is becoming very interesting. Wonder if you guys can help out with a couple of queries:

(1) Is the CCD in the S5 the same as that in the S3. Or is it a completely new CCD?

(2) Some have claimed (perenial issue) that the "actual" resolution is between 6 and 12, although the S5 can produce a 12MP image size. This has to do with the unique pattern of the Fuji Super CCD sensor. Are you guys able to see significantly more detail when shot at 12MP vs 6MP? Is there a real difference? Would be really good if someone can compare a 12MP S5 image vs D2X.

Thank you.

If i'm not wrong..S5Pro is only a 6MP camera..correct me if i'm wrong? the ccd is something like packing 2 sensors (S & R) to capture 1 pix..hence its ability to produce better dynamic range..

Thanks Loupisk,

I try not to be too nit-picking (or pixel peeping) here, but the nature of the S5 sensor makes a direct comparison difficult...

I guess (from what I can determine so far) that what the reviewer said was correct: that the S5 has the resolution of a good 8MP camera (or maybe 10mp?). "Bo Photo" over in dpreview.com has posted many nice shots and here is a direct comparison of a 6mp vs 12mp image output from the S5 under virtually idential conditions. Seems to me while the 6mp image is tack sharp, the 12mp does looks a little fluffy (ie, not as sharp as it should be?). But that is just my impression -- wonder if other users feel the same.

Sigh.

I'm better off joining my "models" - the dragonflies, flowers, Singapore scenics, archi forms, sitting tools, silly street subjects, and stray cats.

*I shake my head*

To clarify some of your doubts, this was not intentional. I happened to play with B/W mode on the S5 Pro when Florence passed me the D200. So I switch the CF and took a color shot with the D200. Lens wise, both of the cams used the 18-135.

just got mine..hehe..still  wif the menu..time for RTFM..:D
