wait few mths lor.. lets' say 2?? the price will go down more or less...
pricing could be on the high side, but considering the capability of this camera, which I believe may win the FZ-5, especially macro.. u can effectively put the lens like 5mm above the object and shoot it.. so.. think can save a bit more to get this ;)

the macro mode is 10cm whereas the super macro mode is 0 cm. I have tried taking a shot at 0cm and will post it soon here after poting to the webshots url.

yeap.... felix.. u wan put in my sample gallery for S2 IS?? copyright goes to u still :)

everything is good , was all set to go , but it was still not perfect . only one thing bad abt FZ-5 is the lack of manual focus function .

FZ-20 might be a good choice , but it's a bit heavier .

olympus 770 looks good but lacks image stablizing .

only s2 fits the criteria but it's going to burn my pocket

dang ! why can't they just build a perfect UZ camera with all the functions

S2 has no manual focus function either.

isn't canon powershot s2 already a full manual camera ? the specs say it does comes with manual focus .

Does anyone knows how much the S2 costs in HK or know any website which lists camera prices in HK?

My friend travels to HK every month on business and I may just get him to buy this for me if it is cheaper there.

But S2 IS Has got very good battery life!

550 shots CIPA on 2300mah batts... furthermore, if u really run out of juices, AA batts can be easily obtained as compared to proprietary li-ion. So, factor this in.. S2 IS is really a better camera.

Sure would. Let me get the pics organised without any touchups and then post them.

There is a manual foucus button at the left side of the cam above the macro button.

thot felixcat8888 already mentioned on pg4 dat they are selling ard $860+ (wif GST). he's one of the few early buyers of the cam! the folks at mscolor remembered him when i asked abt him today! :bsmilie:

I'm also very interested to know what is the diff between the Canon S2 and Panasonic FZ5.

Yesterday AP price (includes GST):

FZ5 - $655 + 256MB + Case
Canon S2 - $855 + 256MB + 7-in-1 case.

So far reviews for FZ5 has been very good, with "Excellent" image rating.

FZ5 plus - Cheaper. Smaller. Li-Ion Batt. Leica lens. Hood provided.
Canon plus - VGA recording mode with stereo sound. Flip LCD?

So far, the only pain for me is the non VGA mode FZ5. I use that feature alot and VGA would certainly have been great. If not for this, I would have gone for the panasonic hands down but now seeing if the Canon image qaulity and VGA mode is worth the extra weigh and cost.

Just read the dcresource review...wah...with IGB card and max resolution, can store only 8 min of video....not too useful here.
Seems this camera's performance is comparable to the FZ5 but at $200 more. For that, you get to add lenses and longer exposure time (15 seconds vs 8 seconds for the FZ5).
Oddly, the review focus on comparison with the FZ20 instead of the FZ5, so I guess Canon meant this to compete with the higher end panasonic.

hi, I bought the camera at $815 on Friday night, $855 with GST.

not bad lah, feels good this camera. the zoom is solid. picture quality good. video is like, fwah......

then again, i'm upgrading from my A80, so I guess the difference between these 2 are simply too much....

More Canon S2 plus:
- AA batteries (depends on personal perference)
- manual focus
- super macro

Are those worth $200 more? Most probably not. If you buy the cameras in US, they are both the same price. I don't see why we have to pay $200 more in Singapore. (Both will have to factor in the shipping, tax, etc. anyway.)

Unfortunately, to me, without the flip LCD and AA batteries, FZ5 does not meet my requirements. So there is only 1 choice to me. I guess I will wait a couple of months for the price to drop.

The dcresource review said in the conclusion: "Those flaws included poor low light focusing (due to the lack of an AF-assist lamp)".

I thought the S2 actually has an AF-assist lamp that projects a checker-box pattern. Can someone confirm please? Thanks.
