go. buy. period. :bsmilie:

like i mentioned earlier, if its anything to go by from my experience with the S1, the S2 shld be a winner. nice lightweight ultra-zoom prosumer camera with IS. great for travels, as i've found out. wat more can u ask for? :bsmilie:

*hmmm... those looking for bargains, think S1 users might be throwing out their S1s soon? :p *
buy buy buy ;p

Has actually narrowed down to FZ5 until the news release of Canon S2  .

I like the size, price and Leica lens of the FZ5 but for a old, tall & fat guy like me, the flip/rotating LCD screen of the S2 is a great feature  , especially for low angle shots.

How nice if the FZ5 were to come with a flip/rotate LCD, it would hv solved all my headaches.

Now waiting for more review/comparison btwn the two cameras  . Will go for the S2 if the picture quality is as good as the FZ5, which also means it will cost me additional $200 just for the flip LCD features :sweatsm: .

bargaincity.com has an updated offer

Price: $885 before gst
FREE 512 mb SD card (Self Redemption from Canon Singapore)
FREE Extra 256 mb SD card
FREE 7-in-1 kit bag

But it almsot works out to be the same as MS color's pricing

I was close to buying the FZ5 too but is now reviewing the Canon S2 first.
To me, the flip screen is a minus, not a plus. Makes the camera look more cumbersome, another moving part to fail. Another minus is the 4 AA batteries which makes the camera bulky and heavy. The plus point for me is the VGA movie mode...That's a really great feature with the kids.

However, the FZ5 image quality rated very well on most of the camera sites. megapixel.net gave it a 10 for normal images and 9 for flash images compared with 9 and 8 respectively for the Canon S1.
Not forgetting its using a higher end Leica lens whereas the canon is using their standard canon lens.

waiting for the review on dpreview and megapixel first.
if the image rating is 9, I go for the FZ5. If its 10...arggg...decison problem again! :-)

actually, u'll be surprised how light the S1 is with 4AA batteries. dun forget, now the S2 uses a SD card - ie, lesser bulk and lighter too, since the storage media is smaller.

the flip screen is not as flimsy as u think too. if u dun wanna use it, u can actually close it by turning the screen to face inwards. u'll hardly notice the LCD screen as its almost flushed against the camera body.

as for all the 9 vs 10 ratings... well. its pretty subjective. like in rob galibraith's webbie of CF card performance. he always ends off his reviews by stating that couple of percentage points difference doesn't really matter in the real world. best is to try out the camera urself and see which suits u best. ;)

ermm.. u guys actually believe it's LEICA GERMANY lens?

if it is LEICA made in GERMANY lens, then it would've probably cost much more than what it is now.

probably just like sony - carl zeiss T*
manufactured up to the standard of the respective company (Leica/Carl Zeiss)
and what level of standard? High, Medium or Low? we won't know

and best is you try out the camera urself..

start full auto mode, make sure settings are at factory default.
e.g auto iso, auto wb, etc

then P mode, adjust different ISO rating to see how's e noise

btw, S2 IS:

acutally not so impt where it is made as long as it is leica quality and controlled by leica. same for the "O" levels. whether you take from school or as an adult its still an "O" levels. so far all the reviews have praised the lens for its good performance. from someone who is not an expert on lenses, that will have to do for me...heh heh

btw, the review on dcresource only coming in late june. these are just some of the initial photos. the lz5 is also an SD card camera and it felt so light in my hands at the recent pc show..

yeap.. but just trying to inform that it's not leica-german made. it's suppose to be made to the leica's quality; tat's all..

I really do not understand why so many people make their decision what camera to buy based on other people's reviews, opinions and recommendations. Try out the camera, buy the one you like, not what other people like.

1 or 2 point more or less really does not make any difference. I wonder if it were down to a blind test, how many of us can really spot the difference in the quality, if there were real difference, and spot them on consistently.

If quality is that important, get a ..... too many to list, but you know what I meant.

Staff attitude sucks that was why i complained. Bought the canon and loving every minute of it.

I've been reading about the S2 IS and have made the decision to buy it.

Hope to get it by this weekend, as I'll be flying off to Taipei on 16th.

Go... Buy.... Willl NOT regret.....

Feel...the Force (to buy) I can.....

In this one, the Force is strong......

Repeat after me: "I will not regret..... Iwill not regret....."
New Canon Buyer: "I will not regret..... Iwill not regret....."

It really depends on whether you want it now or later. The price might not drop so fast though as the S1 IS is still around.

Cheers......

Maybe I'm just over with the small CCDs...

I called Canon on Moday and the staff who picked up my call told me that the canon S2 will be released sometime in September. He told me that Asia will be the last sector where it will be released. However, the very next day, the S2 was released. Am very surprised that the staff don't even know the release date just one day before the actual release.

Stupid management get stupid staff. If management decides to be stupid and pass wrong information, staff are always the ones to kenna hantam.

This is the real world. Which manager will admit to passing the wrong ifo down??
