HDR is not an option if the object moves too fast. Anyway, if you think the motion blur adds to the pic, why not??:)

I shall try that soon after clearing some doubts. But then will there be ghosting if you press the shutter at different intervals? Is your proceding post's hdrs done using this method?
Frankly speaking, I have never used the histogram and i find them useless. Deep inside i know they are actually quite essential. hehe

by the way, did you guys like attend any photography course when you guys 1st started out? or mostly through self-taught? :)

thanks!

100% self experimentation. i think by doing so, you get to understand your craft better. Sometimes, courses give you perspective which is not suited to your preferences or capabilities. Most information can be obtained online - be it thru google or forums like this. Continual and active sharing of tips and whatnots here i believe is so much more effective.

wow! velsco, you're my idol! your pics are so great and you learnt that through self-experimentation!

think i will save up the money for the course and start learning on my own :) and thanks so much for your insightful advice.

Ahh... I forgot to add, if I am doing this, I will use a tripod. Sorry about that. I have stopped using the histogram quite a while ago, I tend to go by 'feel' now. It does give you a rough idea when you are starting out.

Eew. Yup, I'm sadded. :/ hoho
One reason why I am waiting for reviews of the new CMOS SX1 IS.

My first camera was a range finder. Yashica Electro 35 GSN, if anyone is interested. Camera is older then me, bought by my dad, still going strong.

Fixed lens, manual focus, aperture priority (will default to a set shutter speed if you do not have batteries). I was on Mount Fuji, shooting away, while all my friends cameras were not working as the batteries were frozen! :bsmilie:

If you want to learn composition, try picking up one of those disposable film cameras. It will force you to think before pressing the trigger, since you are limited to 24 or 36 exposures.

I think fixing to a particular focal length (like 50mm) for a period of shooting will also force one to think before shooting, it will force you to move around rather then conveniently zoom...:)

yea it makes sense...thks for the tips.... kind souls you all are!

Guys, just posted an adv to sell my Raynox DCR-1540 PRO Telephoto Conversion Lens as I haven't been using it much (or at all!). If you know someone looking for telephoto conversion len, please let them know. Thank you very much!;)

Hi guys...a quick question...
is the S5IS capable of IR shots?

Well, the lens does not seem to have problems. Not sure how strong the blocking filter is though. You will need an IR filter (Actually should be called an IR long pass filter). You will also need a tripod.

S2 IS & S3 IS do not have problems with IR.

Taken with my S2 IS & Hoya R72 filter (lets light of 720nm wavelength and more pass):
