Yes you can, Chris

This sample photo of mine illustrates the same kind of bokeh that you are seeking Sample from Punggol

The distance between objects has to be observed. And of course, set your S3 to f2.8. It's easier that way.

This is one of the piece i like without being photoshopped. Please give me some comments?

Well, search CS on topics like shallow DOF and bokeh...and you will see the experts' advices on this. No you don't need additional stuff. You either do it on the camera, or use PS to create the effect.

Hi yeochris,

These pics are taken with S3, blur background.

Full Zoom Mode

Super Macro Mode

Just as a guide, this type of pic has shallow DOF. To achieve shallow DOF:

1. Bigger apperture (small f/stop number, S3's biggest apperture is f2.8) , more shallow.
2. Longer zoom (full zoom at 12x), more shallow.

So, for conclusion, set your S3 to Av mode, set to f2.8, full zoom and adj your ISO when necessary and snap!

That's about all I know...:D

I think you shoot with flash huh? It is a sharp pic.

For my personal perference,

1. I find the hand distracting and doesn't go well with the flower
2. The shadow of the camera is cast over the lower part of the flower
3. The flower is not very nice:bsmilie: , may be you are just testing out the camera lah.

Paisey to say GeckoZ, I also find the 'hand' :nono:

Can I ask, is the flower fake? Cause it seems fake to me..

It is fake flower......probably GeckoZ is just happen to find an obj to try out at home. Like me, I dun have much time to go out for shooting, so I shoot things at home.....:bsmilie:

That's good. At least your camera won't be just sitting around collecting dust...:bsmilie:

The nail is hit right in my head. :hung:
1. the flower is fake
2. the shadow is cast by the camera's lense
3. i find my hand abit distracting too (which i would nv have noticed if it wasn't pointed out by you guys. )

Thanks for all those feedbacks! :bsmilie:

Ha, let's learn together. See my signature.....:bsmilie:

Keep posting.

I think the photo expresses it plainly but clearly. Pretty nice. But there's someone in the background...:nono:

I do PP some of my pics in PS, but not all of em'.

Nice pic. I am not too much into BW.:D

Since you can't go out to shoot much, why not try exploring BW photo at home! There's a certain beauty of BW photo if you shoot the right subject with the right ambient.

I ain't much into BW, but I do like those low-lighting BW photo with your ISO set to 800. Like that grainy look.;)

In color, they are mere noise..:nono: ..but sure looks good when you do it in BW. Try it!

since you guys are talking about BW, how's this?

If there is nothing outside the door, then I will find it too dark. But it is interesting to see the buildings outside to add in the contrast between the bright outdoor and the dark indoor, and the purpose of reading by the door. If more details can be seen at the legs portion......a bit too dark there. But very nice feeling, relax at home with clean floor.:)

Did you take the pic in the BW mode from the S3 or PS after the shot?

Hmm..doesn't work for me. Too many subjects in the photo (doesn't seem to work well in BW). Try to lower the brightness, I think the grains may be more smoothen out. :)
