[ Rumor and kopitiam ] Olympus E-5 Speculation

The latest rumor I know while attending mass this morning for E-5 is:

You mean the priest was leaking these during his sermon?

Following the reports from the guests in nightpiper's house, the church mice went out to recon at Olympus office and came back with these classified information. The Department of Pest control has been asked by the police to put a stop to this espionage work. :bsmilie:

Those are great specifications for 2008.
The weight sounds more like the E-1 since it was 660g.

Totally 101% agree. Those specs to me is so '07, can't even make it to '08 :bsmilie:

These days i think its a harder sell juz base on IQ alone. Pre '03 no prob, the infancy of DSLR has great potential then. We can only wait & see how's the E5 IQ like, will it turn heads? Or will it "down" heads

Also the interesting thing over at Nikon's front is... very little news bout new DSLRs too, esp after the official announcement of MSLR (mirrorless single lens reflex)

"3 blind mice, 3 blind mice. See how they run, see how they run...." HAHAHAHAHA!!! That's the classic song for the spies. :bsmilie::bsmilie:
Then we have the chinese classic... "三只老鼠,三只老鼠,跑得快,跑得快。。。" HAHAHAHA!!

It would be interesting to see if Olympus can pull something out of the magical hat for Photokina.

At the end of the day, I still love all my current gear and they are able to help me capture good photos. Anything new is simply a bonus. Otherwise, like Mike, it is ok to stick to whatever gear I have at the moment until the next update of camera bodies.

Would be interesting to see if Olympus also explores the 3D market. Though I am not a big fan of 3D photography/videography for now.

Let's just wait and see...

Olympus, do your engineering and R&D magic this time please. 2010 is a new decade, so do something!

Why we all look very far to try to visualize what will be the next E3 replacement will be? To me it's plain and simple it should be much better than PEN series when it comes to IQ, Specs and features. If E5 is just comparable to EPL1 or EP2 in terms of features/IQ and even Sensor, then E620 will be my last Oly DSLR in my dry cabinet time to rethink my options lols:sweatsm::nono:

Which one? :bsmilie:

Depends on which one u use more often HAHAHAHAA!!! :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Sell! Sell! Sell! & BUY! BUY! BUY! BUAHAHAHAHA!!! No need to think so much, later become "ball head" HAHAHAHA!!

Hmm.... ever wonder why both english & chinese classic nursery rhymes use one 3 mice instead of maybe 6 or 10 or any other no.? :p

to me actually, the E-3 or E-5 size is too big for my needs. i'm only interested in what improvements will come, but probably wont get the E-5 anyway. im more inclined to either get an e-30 to partner with my E-P1... OR wait for the next rumored modular cameras next year. anyways, almost 80% of the time i'm grabbing my E-P1 to shoot

I hope E-620 will not be your last Olympus dSLR though...

though think about it, future Olympus cameras probably wont have mirrors so it might still be true that e-620 is your last 'DSLR' hehehe

lols yeah they might just keep one flagship full DSLR so this could be E5 the rest will be mirrorless :) or modular with Ricoh I think already have such concept camera. That would be nice to have a modular camre that can use all 4/3 and m4/3 lenses

At this point of time, the specifications of the new flagship would have already been finalised.

This is purely academic and for discussion sake, what would you like to see in the new flagship?

To me, I want a good picture-taking camera, not gadget.

I'm a E-3 user since November 2007 and shoot with various HG and SHG lenses. For me, I would like to see in this new flagship:

1. A leap in image quality, in term of colour reproduction, noise control, ISO range and dynamic range.

2. Improvement of AF performance, especially C-AF.

What about you (or the rest of you in this forum)?

it maybe my last DSLR coz future Oly might go mirrorless of what Sony did "SLT"

like I said bro all of these are present to thier PEN series so if the so called E5 will be replacing E3 then it should beat its smaller sibling else let's just use PEN no point getting the E5 lols

What is present in the PEN that a flagship dSLR cannot beat?

Logically, it will be pointless for Olympus to release a new flagship when it can't even beat a PEN in term of image quality isn't it?

i agree with that. if these 2 are the priority then it's hard to complain. the other specs are just extras. if people want kickass video, get the GH2

You are a photographer. :)

except for video and noise control, even the e-620 is overall better than the PENs in my opinion. e-620's AF is even not that fast yet will still focus faster and mroe accurate than the PENs.

for now at least, DSLRs still have some advantage, until they've fixed mirrorless cameras' shortcomings

yep agree with you both, what i a saying is dont look too far all the good features are now in the PEN like Video, higher usable ISO good noise control (EPL1), PDAF/CDAF (EPXX and newer E systems) so looking at all the features I think its just a matter of combining them and improving a bit more and dumps all these to the E5 I think would be a great cam of course plus faster AF, and a good sensor maybe higher 14-16MP? is a plus
