Hopefully the price will remain sub-$3k, or maybe in the $3k+ region.

you can hardly compare something at 8fps against that of something at 5fps. At 8fps, one would probably be unable to differentiate between 2 shutter opening noise. At 5fps, it is more discernable due to the short break in between. However, when compared side by side, at the same rate of 5fps or lower, the 1dmk2 is about the same if not louder. The 10d, now that is silent

Agree, 10D's alot quieter... But then again its not too fast. But I'm very satisfied with its performance apart from the sensor noise.

i think the upgrade is quite justifiable what... like 4MP more!

my wish list

1/500 flash sync
sub-S$3K
Can shoot in reduced resolution RAW
5-8 fps
1x bright view finder... rather than current 0.9x
quiet mirror flip and return. (but I think most of the sound is from the shutter position reset)
As rugged construction as 10D.

But what I really  is the 18-200 VR ED (with 4 stops VR)... dun tink Canon is responding to this anytime soon. especially with 4 stops IS.

The 20D mirror slap is LOUD. Recently shot with two friends, one using a 20D and one a 1DMkII, both going at full drive, you could hear the 20D higher pitch and louder slap over the 1DII which was slightly quieter even at higher fps. Maybe the bigger/more solid build and better damping system of the 1DMkII body helped.

having personally used both (and still doing so), i still think its a question of pitch. In terms of loudness, they're about par. Have a 1d, 1dm2, 20d in front of me right now and doing a shutter test again...haha, i'm that bored.
Unfortunately, flash sync is an issue with cmos that has yet to be solved. That aside, 1x viewfinder is almost always reserved for pro bodies. The rest are quite achievable dreams i guess.
Has the quality in 10x zoom optics really improved that much that ppl actually one them now?

i just want it to be very cheap can liao.
coz no matter what specs they come up with, sure better than 20D, just like 20d better than 10d, 10d better than d60...

Price of a brand new grey set 20D is at S$2,000+ in Hong Kong now.

Should I buy? or wait? :(

yeah. i really like the shutter noise of the 10D. it felt really smooth. was kinda disappointed when i heard the 20D's shutter noise.

i think you should wait for a while longer, maybe at least until the 20D replacement is out.

what will this replacement called? 30D?

haha.. doesn't matter la. if it's out the news will probably be posted all over this forum

Here is my post to dpReview on one of the forum they hotly discuss on 30D which is supposed to replace 20D, personally I think it would not be 30D, too similar/confusing with 30D. Maybe 20D MarkII or something.

Anyway, here was my post:
In fact, here is my wishlist for the 20D replacement:

8.2MPix (marginal return on higher resolution, but buffer handling will be a challenge)

Spot metering
ISO 50-6400 (that would be interesting, but I think it's achievable technically)
4.5fps (Canon is still class leading in this)
60 jpeg, 40 RAW buffer
Picture Style
2.5 inch LCD
eye-focus (That was a wonderful technology in their Elan/EOS50 series)

Sensor-IS (My thought is this is probably technically viable by Canon, but may not be align to their marketing strategy to push their IS lens)

And that is something worthwhile for upgrade.

So, what do you think.

May I ask a silly question? Why is it that Canon DSLR do not have AF Assist Lamp? Strobing tends to attract a lot of unwanted attention and also render candid shots an uphill task. My wish list....an AF Assist Lamp... :p

Simple...So that you will need to use a Speedlite with IR assist beam...$$$

I want spot metering!

I had always wanted spot metering when using my first DSLR, the silent 10D. Now that I have a body that has it, I ended up using Manual mode! I guess with digital where one can take test shots and review the histogram immediate after, a spot metering is less crucial for most cases.

Which means I need to carry an external flash with me all the time when shooting in low-light and when I dun wan to use strobe......sigh....

I dun suppose it's limitation, right, in that case?

Get hold of a mint Minolta XD7 wind it and press the shutter release.
Hear the crazy sound. Buttery smooth is what most previous users describe. ;p

low light dun use flash? Hard to focus is one thing, hand will shake, also if shoot human, will get motion blur. If you shoot landscape...got AF assist also no use wat?

20D replacement is coming real soon.......................... ;p

Maybe in next 3 months.

Waiting for the price of 20D to drop drop drop.
