with all that speculation going around the 20D replacement, i think it's at least worth a wait to see how things really are before committing your hard earned $ for a new 20D...

I am definately thinking about upgrading, but I doubt the next generation 20D will have sufficient improvement to get my wallet out of my pocket.

What will it take then?

I really don't care for the technical specs but here are what I want:
1. wider exposure lattitude, at least by 2 stops
2. increase dynamic range, at least by 25%
3. reduced noise, at least by 50% at iso 400 and above
4. ability to use custom curves
5. larger buffer, at least twice current 20D model

Currently, I use 20D, and as far as I can see, I doubt the next generation 20D will satisfy what I want. I think I will upgrade to the next generation 5D, and probably by then the technology being commercialized will include most if not all the improvements I wanted.

Meanwhile, I am very satisfy, within limitations, with the images produced by the 20D, and don't see the need to upgrade, yet.

True true, the 20D is a very capable camera, IMHO it's more than enough for an advance amatuer, other than those doing full-time photography. The technology for digital is coming to a plateau, the current batch of DSLRs has seen dramatic improvement in ISO performance, colour dynamics and qualities, fps, etc... Think we will be seeing a slow down in the upgrading frenzy...
