Seem like she is very famous here. everyone talking about her..... LOLX. Free promo for her .. haha..

How would like your own children to be buliied online?

Don't generalize. Defenseless young children who aren't seeking any attention getting singled out by his/her classmates online and bullied is quite different from an ATTENTION-SEEKING CELEBRITY who's sole goal is to get AS MUCH PUBLIC COVERAGE and to WIN THE PUBLIC'S OPINION.

True, we have been playful with her tacky angmoh accent attempt and embarrassed by her responses, but will eventually come to terms and reconcile with the fact that she will represent us on the World stage (sigh) and wish her the best for our sakes.

Meaning that at the end of the day, the several judges may find, to their shock, that the one who scores highest may not be the one they have in mind. But certainly, in judging events like these, there will be a final session when the distinguished members of the panel can come together and pow-wow and say: "Maybe mathematically everything seems to be in order, but hey guys, looking at it logically, if we are given a final choice between candidate A and candidate B, how are we going to choose?" (or something like that? No?)

I certainly note your point about 'bullying' and I respect your taking this stand. I guess it is not uncommon in Kopitiam, like many other forums, to find members having a good-natured crack at each other at the end of the day, and the attention would have been gradually drawn more so towards making fun of each member with only a remote reference to the singular involved party as an excuse to poke fun at each other, in this case Miss Ris (as you may have noticed towards the later parts of the thread).

Again, allow me to just humbly say again that it is more difficult to regulate and control an online forum that is open to virtually anyone in the world, as compared to the forum, say, on the printed media. Therefore, I am sure everyone who reads this thread would have seen and taken note of your point.

Finally, coming back to the question about the judges... well, I guess life is just that, isn't it? My humble opinion is that she is certainly not an ideal representative for our beautiful country. But what to do? As I have said earlier, I do not agree with this decision, but I have to accept it.

To be honest, I was in a state of shock and disbelief when I first watched the video. The next question was wtf the judges were doing? Then I remembered there was this incident of a competition that my colleagues and I took part in. All the judges thought that my group will win but in the end, they were shocked to find the other team won and we got second. Reason was that the team was one of the first few to be judged and they gave a high score as there was no basis for comparison. As they reached our turn, they already have a basis for comparison and our score was slightly lower. However, since they could not revoke their initial scores, the winner was determined. i guess the same situation could have happened.

As father of three, i can understand the pain of a child being bullied. My son's severe skin problem has caused him to be despised by his own classmates (thank god, he is ok now). That is what prompted my moral conscience to speak. Moreover, Singapore is trying to be a gracious society but is our society gracious judging by the manner the thread is going and to think mods are involved.

No lah... she won't want to go 'gai gai' with me lah...
I am not experienced with my camera.
I don't know how to use my laptop well.
I am not a Senior Member.
I am not a Mod.
I don't have access to nice bean curds.
I am not an invited assistant photog for the Miss Singapore organizer.
Hehehe....
I think I will just stay by the fence and enjoy everyone poking at everyone!

But one thing for sure, I would certainly like to see more photos of our uniquely Singaporean Miss Ris.
Don't know where you all dig out all these photos from. But keep them coming.
If cannot appreciate the oratorical aspect, at least can appreciate the aesthetic aspect.
Lolxxx....!

Ris Low fan spotted

The judges select Ris Low because she represents the typical Singapore girls who are not always perfect.

Ris is the real Singapore girl you may have dated and married.

Ris stays relevant and true to the minds of Singapore men.

Be proud of her.

Very profound.
I initially read and laughed out loud... after after a little while the realisation sinks in and I immediately found what you said to be very true - 'the real Singapore girl you may have dated and married.'
Kow Tow to you.
I am proud of you, as you are her.

Singapore is trying to be a gracious society but is our society gracious judging by the manner the thread is going.......

We have proven to the world that we are gracious enough to select Ris Low to represent us.

How can we be more gracious?

:)

The best decision?? Ok, I'll tell you what's the best decision.

On the way to South Africa, do a quick round up of whichever stewardesses are on duty on the SQ flight, pick one, ANYONE, and send Ris back to Singapore. That would be the best decision.

sorry i never go south africa.

but if we base it on the sq flights to london, then you probably will end up picking someone that looks like she should be on a peranakan cooking show. :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:
