Ricoh to buy Pentax

Guys.... all these optimism is not helping.
There is not enough panic selling at BnS.
I was hoping for some nice buys... and when Ricoh doubles the prices of lens... I can make a pile....
ooppss... I talk too much

Good try!

Unfortunately, judging by the past pricing of Ricoh cameras, they do price them for the mass market. So I doubt they will increase the prices of Pentax lenses.

If they are going to increase lens prices, I'm gonna dump pentax, make some money and go full frame.

Sadly this is the truth.

I find it very very hard to justify the current price for FA31 which already put me off in getting it at all :( Good for the people already had the three princess.
Of course there are many cheaper alternatives to the 31, but this is just escaping from the truth.

Maybe the K5 coming up in my purchase list will be the last pentax purchase afterall... work for few years after graduating and save up for a Leica next. Yum.

It can be call RICOH/PENTAX like KONICA/MINOLTA ;p
RICOH used to have K mount SLR in the film day if I am not wrong.

was actually also hoping to see some panic in bns.. geez

Soon we will be visiting this place http://www.ricoh-singapore.com.sg/moby/cms/contact/index.html for servicing, I wish it's still Emjay's.

How are you so sure that soon it will be this and not Emjay as the distributor of Pentax? Just because Ricoh buys over Pentax from Hoya does not necessarily mean a change of website. Did we have to go to Hoya's website to search for Pentax?

Just a wild guess...:dunno: I hope it's still Emjay.
Edit: what I mean is for "SERVICING" purposes only not the website.

Pentax k5 is built like a tank, the sdm failure is unacceptable and must be improved upon.

I suppose this is the only dslr that has water pour on it as a marketing feat.

"failure" is a strong word. why the sweeping statement? did it happen to you recently?

I have seen Olympus doing that too, if I'm not wrong.

Other online forums are amplifying this SDM issue quite rampantly. Guess it will surely affect alot of users. Even I myself also worried one day the SDM might fail on me.

My bad, so can I take it from you that SDM failure is no longer true on its latest lens? If this is the case we should talk more of this and show prove so that consumers will buy without the fear.

Had been only hanging around pentax forums, does anyone know how does Canon and Nikon USM failure rate compares? (I've forgot about Nikon's name on the internal focus...)

the sad fact is that hoya / pentax never officially acknowledged the problem so we really don't know if these are isolated incidents blown out of proportion by a vocal minority, or a genuine problem that has been swept under the carpet.

my sense is that it affected earlier batches more. its definitely a PR failure. just not so convinced that the product is a failure as well.

i own a DA* lens. so far so good. if there's really a concern, buy extended warranty lor. for a lens that costs that much, its worth it.

just wondering if your response was prompted by personal experience with sdm gremlins.

my beef with sdm is more due to the fact that its not very fast. i'm sure they can do better if they work on it.

sigh, I am eyeing for DA* 16-50 and 60-250 but with Ricoh in the picture I am not sure to dive in now or wait.

if u need it, and can afford it, just buy it. time spent waiting is opportunity cost.

i'm have the 16-50. its a very good lens.
