Lord, you are making one of the most ridiculous comparisons ever.... :dunno: The Leica M9 is the most expensive full frame camera, yet it has some of the worst ever electronics ever. Yet people still buy the damn thing.

You sure it's not the camera user that's at fault? I haven't had much issues with the shutter lag, really. It's at most a few ms at best.

I am a little surprised about shuttle lag you mentioned too. When gxr was out I did heard af was slow in the lens unit but I have not heard any shuttle lag for m mount unit. Personally i do sometimes miss shot but not serious problem.
Indeed the shutter thing is better for nex 7 I heard

On a personal note I find the swirling bokeh too much distracting.:thumbsd:
Especially when the DOF is shallow.

Surely not everyone's cup of tea:bsmilie:

Is the lens hazy? seems to be scattering light... but the swirling bokeh is nice.

Not hazy, i suppose you meant 2nd shot? only seen that in this shot, not others.

M9, M8 has shutterlag of .125ms

info taken from Leica M9 / M9-P Camera Performance - Review

Btw , I am not comparing it to M9 or M8. If my iphone can do it , why Ricoh cannot do it :)

Leica M3 Professional 35mm film rangefinder 0.016s
Leica M7 Professional 35mm film rangefinder 0.012s
Leica M8 Professional digital rangefinder 0.08s
Leica M9 Professional full-frame digital rangefinder 0.08s

Sony NEX-5 APS-C digital compact camera 0.115s
Sony NEX-5N with electronic 1st curtain 0.022s

info from Shutter lag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

User have to understand , the screen too has a lag and these factors adds on to the lag between the moment to the image being capture. I dont think Leica is lousy in electronic , they are not the best but the designer never forget the key factor is capturing the moment.

Its digital technology , as long as there's a A to D there will be lag.

Somehow still prefer looking through glass than lcd screen.

u try on against less say a d700 or 5d.

the ricoh m mount shutter lag which is quite noticeable

I use canon 5d mark 2 usually, portraits work mainly, so far not feeling very annoying yet. Whats the shuttle lag for gxr? Does the new firmware made any difference?

Hmm well why iphone can do, ricoh cannot do... i think even on my canon mark 2 has a different speed on different lens so probably iphone just one fixed lens make sense to br faster, grd3/4 has a good speed too i think.

its not abt the auto focus speed. its about the time taken from when the shutter is press till the image that was captured.

5d never has this problem, for ricoh its like 1/2 a sec slower

I know there is a difference between shutter lag and af speed... anyway my unit is fine, half a sec sounds really long. I think sony has shorter shuttle lag.

I been using it instead of 5dmk2 now. The thing i might doubt i focus assist and evf, heard easier to focus on sony

My GXR can't seem to work properly under cold conditions. I brought it to China once and it was 2-5degrees, the picture was only taken 2-3 secs after I press the shutter button. Anyone experienced that before?

was ok on mine, around 8deg. Did you activate timer?

I did accidentially activiated timer too

that happened to me once, accidentally activated the 2s timer and got moody over "shutter lag" for half a day...:bsmilie:

i must say again. the image of the ricoh is very nice ,the raw file is so nice too...

other than that, not very good...

go try the electronic shutter at 1/2 speed or 1/8 at high iso , u can see a ripple exposure on image.

That's interesting, i tried a couple of shots at iso3200, 1/8s, f/8 in electronic shutter mode, all look normal, no ripple

Anyone got ripple exposure on image?

Yesterday, 1st Of April 2012 was an astonishingly super hot day. Besides getting sun-burnt in the army during my national service stint, I kena yesterday again at the Chinese/Japanese Gardens. Went out to try some Long Exposure shots with the A12 28mm module plus a B+W ND110 Filter.
Love the outcome of it.
The second shot is a hand-held three frames auto-bracketing shot (HDR). I love the GXR for this as doing HDR hand-held is very straight forward =)

Nothing new from my GXR recently ... processed this macro shot a while ago.

You'll have to agree that's certainly not a like for like comparison.

Of course, I haven't got the kind of dough to get the M9 or even the FF DSLRs, to make that comparison. But I have not find it a problem myself.

When you need that kind of responsiveness, you'll probably be better off the cameras that you've stated.

I've been a gear head for the longest time (and still is), but the GXR had been my main camera for quite a while. It's got its quirks, but being used to your equipment, and understanding its limitation is also part of the process (in my opinion).

So yes, I think I got your point, but there's so many other positive things to like about this camera.

BTW, that shot of the lady in low light is really good!

My initial thought is that the HDR's a little over done?

Quirks aplenty with this camera, metering at low light is one, shutter lag another, occasional dust spots (user problem as well), need to restart camera on power saving mode. But yes, understanding it's limitation and finding other ways round it/tolerating if there's no way out.
No AA filter itself gotta beat all the quirks it's ever got...Just imagine price difference of no AA filter on Nikon D800E & D800 is about the price of GXR will get one to appreciate what's in this baby. imho:)
