Hi Chipvn,
Wow, the night shot looks great. I went to your flickr account to view it in larger size. The image looks clean and noise free. Can you share with me how did you manage to achieve such noise free picture from the GXR M module as I find my pics taken in low light do not look as clean as yours.

Hi, thanks for your comment! Yes, the big disadvantage of GXR M is using the old sensor (just almost the same Sony sensor like the A12 50/2.5 macro module or the Pentax K-x except removing the AA filter). It has a bit noisy even at based ISO and even much more noise for long exposure photo. My photo above actually still has a bit of noise if you pixel-peeper it.

My experience for long exposure night photo with GXR M module is:

- Shoot RAW
- Using ISO-Low (equivalent to ISO100 although you will need to sacrifice some dynamic range comparing to it based ISO200)
- Try to get the exposure right when shooting cause under exposure will increase noise when develop RAW file and over exposure (even just a bit) will blowout highlight since the DR is low.
- Develop the RAW file using some good RAW converter and apply some noise reduction and sharpening.

My above photo was captured at ISO100, f11, 15s. The RAW file then was processed using RAW Theerape with noise reduction of 25 for chrominance and 40 for luminance. Sharpening using RL Deconvolution method with 70 radius and 75 amount.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Chipvn for the tip.. just have to shoot more.. sigh... if only Ricoh upgrades the sensor to the Pentax K3 sensor.. the GXR would surely be hot... in the meantime... just enjoy and shoot

I don't need the K-3 megapixel! If they can not launch GXR M II with FF sensor then all that I need is just to bring the AA filter-less sensor from Ricoh GR or Pentax K-5IIs in the new GXR M! Come on Ricoh! You can do it! :(
