Ricoh GXR! - Season II

I thinks so ... for Kr i think is M42 mount ...
It's RF couple ... so for the GXR M ...

KR is K-mount. Not M42. Even if it was M42, flange distance would still be longer than M mount. Adaptor would need corrective optics to work.

Mounts with short flange distance (like M, E, micro 4/3) can more easily adapt to fit dslr lenses with longer flange distance since the adaptor only needs to space out the lens from the camera.

Thanks Wonglp and detritus, so flange distance on the GXR-M is very short then, interesting, so can easily take on any other lens with longer flange.

Not possible as k mount flange distance is longer than M mount. unless you want to mount K lens into M that's possible.

That's correct, optics though I've seen so far deteriorates image quality.

Yes, that's one of the most fun features of mirrorless today, is to be able to use manual lenses. Here's a couple from some manual lenses older than me.

With Canon 35/2 LTM, small cute light sharp lens, also known as Jap cron. Wide open.

& one with Leica Leitz 50/1.5 wide open. Swirling bokeh, not every ones cup of tea though:)

How is Summarit doing in terms of sharpness wide open ?
Nice Canon LTM sample ... The best I even seen ...

Thanks!

The summarit is sharp compared to most SLR 50/1.4 e.g. OM, Minolta etc, but Canon 35 cron is wee bit sharper. The unique bokeh is what I sought after for rather than the sharpness. It flares quite badly as well.

Here's another that shows the bokeh. Some may not like it though...

The summarit is a char-bo lens... soft wide open and with swirly bokeh, the ladies will  the images from this lens! :bsmilie:

Slightly OT, around this time last year when it was all cats & dogs, I met up with wonglp and did some lens test. Click on link at your own peril... (note: virus of a GAS type within...)

Need some advice here and hope the Ricoh bros here can help. :)

I've moved from a digital M to film M for a while now, but I'd be travelling for a bit year end and didn't want to carry hordes of film around. So I am looking for a digital solution. My top criteria for camera gears is that it must be small & light. Of course, fast and ease of use would be good too. I was eyeing the Oly OMD for some time as it seems to satisfy my needs but the build quality seems of suspicion. Not that it would kill photography but it will certainly bug me.

The GXR has never really piqued my interest, until now, because (pardon me for saying this) it looks like a strange animal especially with the A12 M-mount module (I can picture it mounted with my Summitar 50 drawing curious stares from people). But somehow, I am drawn to the fact I can use it with some of my M lens lying around instead of investing in another system altogether. But my question is, the GXR (body at least) has been out for at least a few years now, so is it silly to jump in on the system this late?

BTW, I love my GRD. Thanks for reading :)

A12 M launched last year only, as a GRD user you are familiar Ricoh dun kill their product for at least two years. We are hoping FF system from Ricoh but no rumour or news yet, looks like it may happen as Sony has shown it's latest FF compact. Maybe late next year or in 2014, just guessing. Meanwhile I think you can safely get into the system, since you have a set of M lenses lineup, doesnt require to spend alot to get into GXR system. And embrace the weird look from others, that's one of Ricoh's unique charisma. haha...

A12 M x Konica 28mm AR lens ...

One of the special feature of the A12 M ... not only fits M lens and also some legacy lens from the old days ...

I have both OMD & GXR. Native m43 lenses goes with OMD, and GXR with M and other legacy SLR lenses. GXR is 1.5x crop, so M will be better on it that on OMD, which is 2x.

OMD is very useable coz it's AF and very fast at it, has tilt screen, weather resistant and the lenses range are very good now for my needs. GXR+A12M otoh, is slow to use of course, very quirky at times, certainly you can have A12 28/50 for AF. On the hand, GXR feels the best on the hands amongst all mirrorless I had tried, somehow, they made it small without losing the ergonomics even with slightly front heavy lens. With OMD, without option grip, it can be tiring handling heavier lenses. It certainly looks weird when people see me shooting landscapes, long exposure with voigtlander 12mm. It's smallest 18mm equivalent you can find out there.

It's hard to advice you, however, if you only intend using M lenses, the obvious choice is the GXR, not OMD. It's the best (economical) machine for M/LTM now, imo. Slap on A12 28/50/S10/P10/A16, you get AF though not the fastest, still very useable.

I shoot my M lenses on the GXR, from a 50 lux v2 to the latest 6-bit lenses. I also shoot them on pany's m43 as well as the Fuji xe1. I personally prefer the size and handling of the GXR and the jpeg colours of the GXR. And it is very sharp as there is no AA filter.

At about $1500 for a new GXR+M module+VF or about $1k used, I think this is the next best to a digital or film M.

Can someone help to confirm if the A12 50mm macro has focus peaking like the M mount and if so, what version of software is that on the body and module?

Yes A12 Macro has peaking, but for me better use magnification for macro to get more accurate intended focus point

Taken with GXR A12 50mm
regret to trade this lens away

Is this the same focus peaking as that in the A12 M mount? Darn it, I sold my GXR off thinking that it is not possible. :(

Anybody else can confirm?

I have the A12 M mount and the 50mm.
Focus peaking is the same.
There are many options available on the GXR, so it took me some time to work out the options I needed and configure the camera to what I works for me.

Thank you both for your replies, looks like I will be coming back to the GXR. :bsmilie:
