D800E + Zeiss is sharper and wider
And about 7x more expensive and heavy than the GR+GW3. 7x better IQ? Naaaaaah... I'd grab the GR from the dry cabi for a casual shoot anytime.

Want to see a showdown between the Zeiss 21mm 2.8 + D800E vs the Ricoh GR with 21mm converter?
See this post on Clubsnap.
Also, another comparison - this is the bottom right part of the picture (about 30% of the entire picture). Notice how the GR+GW3 sharpness and contrast is just a little worse than the Zeiss 21mm which is prob the best performing 21mm now. All said, i'd sacrifice a little drop in IQ for the pocketability of the GR, though I don't see myself using the GW-3 that much since it's a hassle.
And I think Ricoh is a bloody robber to make us buy the hood and adapter for close to SGD$90 just to use the GW-3 again. They are nothing but two pieces of plastic.

Ricoh GR
Theses two photos seem were not taken from the same location? The Zeiss/E800 combo is just so much wider than the GR21 combo. From my own experience the GR21 is pretty wide, definitely as wide as the 14mm on our Pentax APSC (means 21mm equivalent FOV on full frame).

Same location (tripod and ballhead didn't move), but the off centre tripod mount on the GR means it might be a bit off, did try and match up my wimberley plate as much as possi le though.. However, it does really seem that the Zeiss is slightly wider.
Ya... it's almost impossible that the image on the left is with the GW3. I test my Canon 20mm and the GR 21mm. It's definitely not "that different".
I really don't think it's "that different".

Looked at the full sized photos, they don't seem to be that much different, definitely not as different as what you showed in the cropped ones.
Price isn't much cheaper if you don't count in the freebies (which the shop indicates only the first 30 buyers are able to get?). I'd go w the local set just to save the hassle.
I am pleased with the GW3, and will use it for my landscapes whenever possible or appropriate. I am sure many of you are enjoying this combo. ;-)
The GR is getting to be pretty poisonous . . .
It's becoming deadly poisonous... I m on the brink of succumbing to it... Sold the grd iv because of sensor size, now w aps-c... It's gorgeously attractive.
