Good for you! Glad u got a new camera! you are blessed!:D

an email i send to ricoh japan and the reply i got. do hope any future firmware updates allow us to set auto iso limit.

Question:

>area:Asia
>category:Firmware,
>model:GR DIGITAL
>computer:Windows XP,
>download:Card reader,
>subject:Ability to set limit for AUTO ISO function
>detail:I realised the auto iso on the GR digital only goes to a max of
iso154. I would like to request that ricoh look into the possibilities
of
letting users set their own maximum auto iso limit. This will be useful
when the GR is used by a non professional user. Otherwise max iso154 is
highly prone to camera shake when in low light conditions. Please do
look
into this possibility in future GRD firmware updates.

Dear Lim,

Thank you for contacting Ricoh Japan,

First, in ISO AUTO setting, a value of the ISO sensitivity will change
but
depending on a condition, such as brightness, distance.
Please have a look in 91 page in the Camera User Guide that came with
your
camera. In that page, you can find "Note" in the bottom of the page. If
you
take a picture without flash, a value of the ISO sensitivity will
become
ISO 60 - 160. This is a specification of the GR Digital.

Lastly, thank you for your comment on the GR Digital.

Hi Folks

Can anyone give me a fair assessment of GRD vs Fuji F30 (price aside). Was quite set on getting the F30 until i stumbled on this thread. I am a sucker for retro looking digital cams. Had a LC1 last time. Thks.

do u need zoom? - F30

lens quality - GRD , but can be a bit on the soft side ( nw i usually crank sharpness +1)

noise level - subjective F30 low noise, GRD noise can look film like, but at times can look very ugly

manual control - grd

built - u hold both and u will agree GRD is much better to hold, esp since u own the LC1 before

colors- i dun own F30, but i like the colors in chrome mode of the F30 as seen on posted samples on the net.

flash output - tried both cams before and i prefer the F30 flash, natural

retro - haha, GRD of cos....even more retro with the viewfinder (which u can use to stabilise ure shots at slow shutter speed, and it's big and bright)

slim factor - GRD .....it gets carried out very often

hope it helps
;)

the GRD being more vintage looking wins hands down liao :bsmilie:

anyone tried a nikon sb800 flash on their ricoh grd? wonder if it will work, including full ttl functions.

Thanks lim3895. Recently i got myself a crumpler thirsty al(1) to bring it around. Fits jus nice :) anyway, feeling itchy n jus checking with users of both the ricoh external viewfinder and how much did u pay and how is it? worth the extra dollar? :) Also, how abt those who choose to use the VL 28/35mm viewfinder? how much did u fork out for it and how does it measure against the LCD? Thanks :)

i got most of the original accesories, including cable release...hahaha. i got mine viewfinder and wideangle at a packaged price during some PC show in march lah.

read somewhere someone got the ricoh finder for $150++

pros:

Big and Super bright!
21 / 28 mm frame guides 4:3 aspect
useful when handholding shots, and for framing when it's too dark
use finder instead of LCD, save batt

cons:

useless in macro mode
not 100% coverage
w/o viewfinder more pocketable, esp if u have the original ricoh GR leather case.
wide angle lens or lens hood may block a bit of the bottom part of viewfinder
