Thank you Dan for posting it up.. I chose the Orchid as it is a National Icon of Singapore and the aperture diaphragm as it is represents the fundamentals of photography. I had designed it based on our Club name, RFSG.. the aperture diaphragm leaning towards the initials RF and the flowers leaning towards the initial SG.

I think we could further improve the orchid (if valid) to be more simple, currently it looks like, what Kelvin had pointed out, Macro photography..

Thanks

Would it be possible to actually see your design?

I like all the ideas but I am worried it will be impossible to manufacture if the design is too intricate. It needs to be as simple as possible since the surface of a soft release is very small.

Hi all, courtesy of our multi-talented and Bessa III toting KWYLEE, he has created a series of logos for our soft shutter releases. The designs are terrific, simple, effective and very, very attractive. It speaks of sophistication....

Meven has contacted Tim Issacs with positive results however the minimum order is 200 pieces at US$13.80 each (without shipping)

lets start voting on and finalizing the designs! Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. remember please select 2 designs!

Design #5 and #6 for me :bsmilie:

Thanks for the image. I think this is a good start, it would be good to have someone making a vector drawing on that idea.
I would simplify the petals of the orchid and make the aperture blades more obvious. Maybe combining 2 images like the ones below:

The colours will also have to be simple and include only red, white and black, preferably without any shading.

Finally, it should also contain the letters RF.SG somewhere.

The main thing is to keep everything simple, it needs to fit on a circle of 10mm in diameter!

Now for the 1 million dollar question, is there a graphic designer out there willing to give it a try?

OK RFSGers...here's what I propose, in order to get this going and recognizing the fact that a new design will take time to develop and to get all to be comfortable with it, lets start developing a unique logo from now to our official launch and use design 5 & 6 in the interim (seems like everyone likes this).

Afterall, we have somewhat agreed that we need time for the official launch with an exhibition. We could do a big do with merchandise, cards etc. I am exploring baseball caps and polo shirts now.....

So I think lets go with the existing designs, run a minimum order and do it locally if possible, even if we do it through Tim Issacs, it wont be an issue, we can keep the extras for new members (I can pick up the difference) and release them as we gather new members, instead of ordeing again and having them wait....

What say everyone....?

Fine by me.. but Dan I thought the major votes was for #6 & #7 ?

I fully agree.

Been out of circulation lately but I am back :-)

Dan,

Is there an estimated cost?

Hi all, Max(Meven) has all the cost details...Max can I bother you to post up what you emailed me so everyone knows how much? thanks.... I dont mind fronting the cash first and guys who order pay me back, but of course, best is that I can collect as much as possible first as the amounts are quite large

Wei Chuan (baboonish) you mentioned that Mr. Tay can make these locally, can I bother you to help me check? Tim Issacs will only do a minimum order of 200....

Thanks Guys

Ladies & Gents,

here are the costs involved if we want to make 200 pieces with Tim Isaac:
  • 200x US$13.80 = US$2760.00
  • PayPal Fees = US$110.40
  • Shipping = US$38.35
  • TOTAL = US$2908.75

Manufacturing time is 2 to 3 weeks. We can choose up to 3 designs and order any quantity for each designs as long as it makes at least 200 pieces.

I hope this is clear.

In addition, I propose to have 4 ordering/collection point (East,West, Central and North) to ease payment and distribution administration.

I volunteer to cover East side.

So... What are the final designs available for choosing? I suggest the order quantity thread and this one be merged... If not how do we know what we are ordering to begin with?? Like for example I don't mind ordering 10 pieces... but 10 pieces of what?? I certainly don't want 10 in the same design.

Hi Yatlapball, generally the designs most voted for the soft shutter release is designs 5&6, we currently have physical samples from Tim Issacs of which baboonish is about to see if they can be manufactured locally as the cost and quantity, as you can see, warrants another exploration of pricing. This should be done shortly and information passed onto members.

You are also right in the fact that both threads need to be merged now which I will do as soon as I can.

Also I have just (today) contacted a local supplier to make samples of polo shirts and baseball caps as well. I should be able to also inform all of these costs fairly soon. So I ask all to bear with me...

Cheers :D

Dan,

2nd typo error , most voted was 6&7 and not 5&6

:-)

Hi, some updates on the release, I enclose an excerpt from an email from meven to me recently:

" I had a very long discussion with Philip regarding the soft releases. I showed him the samples from Tim Isaac and he wasn't impressed to say the least. He said that on the long run they will damage the shutter release on the camera, in fact he has already seen the damages cause by the soft releases. I have asked him to contact his manufacturer locally to see if he can make samples but we will have to pay for the samples.

He proposes to make them out of aluminium alloy that can be tainted in several colours instead of being painted, he also proposes to engrave the logo. In the long run it will make the soft releases more durable. The paint on the one by TI is not going to last very long.

Obviously, the ones from Mr Tay will be more expensive but we can decide how many we need instead of having a minimum order of 200."

I will be seeing Mr. Tay as soon as I get back to singapore, so this project is still moving...:)
