this one, along with 112, seem to have jagged edges on my monitor - this is evident of oversharpening. try to have a lighter hand on it.

good work Zul. Possibile to move or compose it heads on with lower angle as it will gives a stronger composition.

wish the exposure is longer. perhaps boosting the highlights will bring out the subject more.

is that statue there all the time?

btw, Selamat Hari Raya my dear friend...

rgds,
thomas

Thanks Thomas..yes someone mentioned about why I didn't go lower for this. My bad, I thought I will loose some horizon and foreground details/textures if I did so..adding to that..I never really plan to compose and take this..Should have exposed it longer like you mentioned.

I saw several of these along the beach Thomas. It was sort of Hindu prayer offerings which happens almost every morning I think. They will release these and clay porcelains, which I think contain the ashes of the dead, to the sea. You can find these in numbers along the beach during low tide..

Thanks for the wish mate.Hope you are having a swell time taking photos in China too :)

very nice shot in #111, and i'm loving it!

I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for visiting :)

strong colours and lovely compo!

If I had to nitpick, I would say crop off the top a little bit, because of that pinkish bit of cloud in the extreme top right corner.

wie gehts?! Enjoying your stint in Germany I see..appreciate you took your precious internet access to visit my thread :-) Ya la..I saw that too, I didn't know why I ever crop that away..
machst gut bro!

This is one 'habit' I need to shake off..overdoing this :embrass:
I'm like waiting for someone to highlight this. Thanks for pointing it out, and thanks for dropping by night86mare :)

not the usual angle, but i think there is potential here.

i'm envisioning something with a lot more negative space, to emphasize the starkness of the jetty. :)

Thanks! let me envision it too and see if I can 'retouch' my pic :)

nice and clean, love the palette too.

on another note though, can you advise what crop ratio this is? i am seeing 640x469, doesn't seem to be 3:2 or 4:3...

my preference would be to crop it further (at the top) to reduce the amount of dead space there. also would help to prevent the occurence of a split frame (which can work), which does not work here as the sky is not quite interesting enough.

hehehe thanks bro!
I'm learning too from reading the other comments on this thread... eye-opener! :)
catch up with you soon!

#118 has lovely colours...! after reading night86mare's comments about the dead space at the top... I also kena convinced... yeah... top 1/4 to 1/3 is basically the same colour, so nothing impactful. Sad to crop, but sometimes it has to be done! :)

Bro I appreciate it very much for your keen interest in viewing my thread. You noticed how 'weak' my pictures are in so many aspects. There are still so much I that have to improve on. I'm glad my thread is an eye-opener and one which has many learning values to you, and myself obviously. I just hope I'm not a bad and stubborn student repeating the same mistakes after being pointed out by the seniors here hahaha...

yup i'm doing something for #118 now :-)

Thanks! trying to incorporate some of your 'signature' colours from your previous landscape pics hehe..

I cropped this manually in ACR, more or less about 4:3 equivalent :embrass:
Below is the version which I cropped further as advised. 4:3 crop still showed so much dead space, so I had to crop it manually again:

I must admit it does look better(or can the sky be cropped further?).Your vision is spot on as always. Thanks again night86mare for taking your time to critique and correct my pics :-)

Went back to this and shot from a different point of view.

Hi r00ki3,
Very amazing picture. How do you do it or process it? Gradient?
Do you take a black and white shot first and later process it?
Do you over expose the picture first when taking such shots?

HOW DO YOU DO IT?? he... he...:dunno:
Try to learn to make such pictures.;)

Thanks for the compliment!
1. I attached ND110 filter when taking this
2. This is a long exposure shot in colour and yes I overexposed this to get some textures out from the 2 objects
3. After that I cropped it remove any unwanted elements from the frame.
4. I cloned the horizon and add gradient to the top and bottom portion sort of to balance it out and to 'lead' the viewers to focus on the 2 objects, and I converted it to black and white.

I dont overexpose all my pictures when I take such pics..

To have a good example and a learning value of long exposure photography do visit soulFLY's thread. He is the expert on this :)

this looks like Lwr Sel. Reservoir, but where's the background? Cloned it away? ;)

I see a subtle line about 10% down from the horizon line... and another one on the right side about 5% down from that.

Bingo! :)

Wah you have sharp eyes man!..yeah I'm still trying hard to do this well. Have to further refine my processing :embrass:

how u manage to get sure nice color and sharpness? Mine is alway not there. Any filter use or processing?

Thanks for visiting fisherman21.
This is a single shot, further enhanced using CS4 during post editing to achieve the desired outcome. But as mentioned before I overdid on the sharpening. There was no filter used for this shot :)
