They need more then sunglasses if someone decided to use burst mode... :D

Yeah yeah ..

If everyone is gonig to rush for it, then it will be a real pain to coordinate the whole effort. And then, who's going to pay for the films, developing, time etc? If free labour, then how about meals for them? All these needs consideration. It's NOT really a free event afterall.

And if you get a professional photographer to cover the event, but with so many other photographers crowding around to have a "slice of the cake", chances are, all photographs may just turn out unfavour.

Rather have 1 professional guy and let him do all the work.

Agreed with Pegasus.

I rather spend my money on a good photographer than have a dozen of half-baked photographers crowding around me on my wedding day. "Too many cooks spoil the broth".

Thanks.

And also if you have more than one photographers, and everyone is using their own perferred films, then will have a mixture of photos' tone etc. Or for digital, difference saturation photos by different guys, different PS style etc? Probably end up with different type of photos in an album that looked aweful.

$750 should be attractive enough for a good professional photographer. That kind of money for a "once-in-a-life-time" event, is worth it.

Rather than trying to save a few hundreds by asking friends to do it, and ruining the photos... and worst, friends who just want to make use of this event to learn ...

Think twice.

Think twice.

I would say that this is individual.

Should mine come, it will be opened to most of my photographer friends + colleagues (photographers), but set some guidelines. From a rough guess, there will be about 40-50+ with a few hundred guests. A mixure would be fine, not all the photos have to be shown, they ought to skimmed before any presentation. On the budget side, as photographer, we know something like a few thousand is a must if you invite so many, but you get the shots and negatives, see?

It really depends on what you want, I do not think $750 is good money in general for some who are strangers to each other, but if they know one another, it is ok. You will have to count in the number of man hours required, film, printing, album, transport and follow-up. All this is also money too. General Chinese Weddings are actually very strenous events if you look at it.

Just my 2cts worth.

I speak as an ex-wedding photographer (before I left for UK three years ago). Of course I don't represent most wedding photographers..

Anyway, I agreed with you that "It's all individual".

I have seem enough choas of messy wedding events with newbies photographers around. Too much photographers running around, too much suggestions, and definitely too much people trying to do things their own ways.

If most of the photos try out so-so or worst bad, do you want to keep the photos/negatives? If your friends are willing to foot the expenses, it's fine then. If you need to pay the film etc, then how?

Some people thought that they didn't want to pay "strangers" money to have their wedding photos taken. Hey, a good professional photographer must be able to mingle around with the couple etc to make everyone at ease and get his job done. If he remains a "stranger" to the couple 1hour down the event, do you call him a professional?
