depends, if for those without portfolio, since its 1 setting shoot all, $10 x 103 = 1030.

batch processing is simple with lightroom or PS. considering that... if it takes 2-3 days to complete also not bad.

Of course, if we're talking about just one set up for all the shots and there are 103 shots, of course can shoot. But since there are different type of products, different shapes, size and surface, I would not shoot with the same set up. Knowing your standard, I'm sure you woun't also right?

oh ya talk so much, got 1 important factor forget to factor in...

its $10 per item or $10 per view/shot?

its makes a hell of a difference if the client tells you that he want 8 view per item... and you quote $10 per item... suay...

OT abit, once my client's Jr art director try to play pank with me, shoot about 20 products and every product shoot about 3 to 5 angle, later after I PP all the shots he select only 1 angle per product and say they'll only pay for those he selected :angry: I told him to fly kite and took back all the images and refuse to take his call after that ( he got dateline to submit to client and submittion to press and since the products mock ups are still in my studio, he can't get another photographer to shoot :devil: ). After about 2 days, when he's shitting in his pants liow, he no choice tell his boss who call me and within an hour, I sent all the images to the agency. Of course, they paid me for all the images shots but I also give the boss a discount lar :bsmilie:

BTW, I'm still servicing the agency and the Jr art director got fired a few months later when he piss off the client :bsmilie:

i dun take up such shoots... lol... besides that... i shoot for free leh...

but among those most are dupes, so you can reuse the lighting for subsequent items... i think it'll be the standard lighting standard background... if his client see this... FHL... but i think most of the time its suicidal to ask these in forum... esp with a 'advertiser nick'.

ultimately, it really depends how much i'm gonna be paid... if i'm paid well enuff to squeeze my creative juices out, i'll even squeeze my balls dry to come up with 103 different setups.

A client of mine approached me to do a product shoot for these list of products. How should I quote?

Top (polo tees, woven shirts, round neck tees) : 50 pcs
Towel: 2 pcs
Cap: 9 pcs
Tie: 15 pcs
Muffler: 11 pcs
Bow tie: 9 pcs
Whistle chain: 2 pcs
Friendship band: 5 pcs

looks like a lot of junk they're photographing, $10 might be ok for really simple shots. There's probably some idiot out there who'll shoot it for that price anyway

well. i mean i'm guessing the client is just some blogshop owner trying to make ends meet. if its tat case and u hardly gonna be using much equipments. possibly a light tent, 2 lights and just minor editing?

if tats teh case 10 bucks PER item shot is already quite ex. remember some items shot cost less than 5 bucks. factor in everything blog shop owner still has to earn too!

if need assistance i can help ts by loaning him the mini product photography kit.

Usually when a car is build, even before it's launch, it's already shot at from every possible angle so when it was mentioned to shot "a line up" of cars, I assume that it's to line up a row of cars for a shoot :bsmilie: and $100K for that is too Ex IMHO

Anyway, my friend who works in the agency who's handling the local Lexus account said that they did not hear of anything from the client about the need to shoot their line up of cars. Maybe it's something which the management wants to do but not for advertising purpose so agency did not know.

I'n not sure about down under, bit in SG, nope, not every car shoot is over $100K, there's no "base" price that a car shoot MUST be at least $100K. A local photographer recently shot a car for a local ad and if I hear correctly, it was a one day job and cost below $15K, DI not included.

I was approached to shoot a car ad in my style for $3000. I quoted more (duh) and they proceeded to get someone else to copy my style and shoot it for $3000.

i getting it from ian. its not one car leh bro. its a series of cars, adding on ur using not a dslr with those 10 megapixel kind leh. as far as i remember, the angmoh was saying something abt 30 plus megapixels?

anyways i managed to dig up that old email from tat company

Hi Allen,

You've every right to be dubious as it smells big time. Firstly no agency is going to ask you for either art direction or concept proposals let alone a quote without first getting you in and talking with you face to face to discuss the entire shoot in detail.

It's also a highly specialised area where there are a few major players who do most of the work in the SE Asia - Australasian region and those guys have massive studios and lighting systems that run in to millions of dollars as that's what's required to light a vehicle properly. You sure as hell can't do it with half a dozen small softboxes and 640WS strobes.

Also it's normal for a division such as Lexus to have their own in-house or agency based art director who will discuss exactly what the agency's pitch will be (that's their sales concept) and also what he or she wants you to produce and the overall tone and conceptual side of the images. The other thing that's common is to produce blue or green screen (Chromakey) shots of the vehicle exterior so it can be slotted in to various backgrounds.

A job like this is not for the faint hearted and as I've said without a proper face to face meeting in person then I'd be highly suspicious of said shoot. It sounds like either a fishing trip from a startup agency or a wannabe. Treat it with great caution.

Better to reject the job than make a hash of it. 80K is starting to get to be a reasonably serious assignment with commensurate pressure applied from the agency.

80K is a bit on the low side for a project of that magnitude. I reckon they are being cheep cheep about it. It should be around 130K SGD for that number of vehicles. I've got a pretty good idea of what they are after and my suspicion is that they've either shaved the budget down or under quoted for the job, assuming the job exists.

You are right mate. No company will ever engage a freelance photographer for a shoot without first meeting up face to face. And this meet up will usually span over a few sessions before an actual shoot.

I experience it first hand when my company enagaged an agency for the shoot and there were several rounds of discussions followed by delivery of concepts and sketches before even setting up of equipment for the shoot.
