It's funny, as I read trough the thread, it seems that photographers love to complaint.

To be honest, I understand the price ask by the TS is low, but really, those don't agree with it, can just ignore it.

At the end of the day, I don't see anything being achieve here except everyone being angry at each other.

Shouldn't a photographer be more gracious?

I am sure people are going to flame me but if you spend the same enthusiasm on building your business, I am sure you will get ahead of yourself.

So what someone charge less? so what if people want to pay less?

As a photographer, I would rather spend my time building my business. So those who are serious about making a living through photography should spend their time that allow the business to grow and not on such a negativity.

Just my thought.

then i guess you shouldn't write here as well...

just think of it as 'educating' the client and those people with camera... but sadly in a harsh way...

Complaining isn't educating.

I can understand how they feel, as long they express themselves without hurting others, not crossing the line, nobody in trouble,
anyway, photographers suppose to be more emotional kind of people isn't it?

Yes, I agree with you, but to able to put their time and energy in a more productive way, everyone need time to learn.

So when we getting older, we get wiser and our 火气也没这麽大.

Hi Catchlights,

Truly agree and also thanks to Agetan. I must add photographers are not the only being in the world being more emotional type. Dancers are emotional people too because we dance with great emotions for each and every performance that is why I am a highly emotional person too. I am not posting here to fight or justified anything about my budget at this point it is for me beyond the money issue but just to share our experiences in life.

When I starting out I too offer free backup dancing service to TVs show, singers' concerts why?? for the stage exposure and experience, if I charge I will never get the chance to go up on that stage and no matter how talented or good I am, I will not be able to show it, pls dont ask me to dance free for family gathering or at friend's party.. its totally different being on the stage.

Look at it in another way, for those law chambering students who receives on couple of hundred per month and work more than 8-10 hours day, much much worst than the labour workers, does anyone say they are an insult to the legal industry, so what makes photographers have the right to think in such manner?

As for Red-eye and G-man, I dont know how old or young you guys/gals are but there are many more things in life to learn, being humble and polite are one of those things. Maybe you guys are born lucky with golden or silver spoon so 20$ is worthless in your eyes however not everyone is as lucky in life. Everyone goes through life with ups and down, personal circumstances does play a trick on some people, for survival sake.

This my true life which I am sharing so pls dont make fun of it: When I was still young and new lowly paid dancer - my mother got cancer and father is jobless, so both my sister paid the whole 45k of hospital bill with our credits cards. So after the whole drama is over, technically both my sister and I are in our early twenties but already have 20k credit card debts to pay, nobody could help us so what do we, I worked 3 jobs to pay, teaching as many classes as I can, lowered my fees to get more dance jobs guessed what ...nobody in my industry said anything like I am the lowest, spoil market and insult to industry, they even offered me their replacement classes. The debt took me 5 years to paid off during that time I was walking from schools to schools carry my big radio and gymnastics equipments to teach classes because I could not even afford the bus fare, I survived only on bread, water and instant noodles. My point is that so pls dont judge or comment too fast and harsh when you do not know the whole circumstances anyway like I have said 20$ is worthless to you then just ignore me or tell me its too low. I can truly accept such comments no problem however what I truly cannot accept is the "Attitude" you guys have and comments towards others.

Be it whether you are building a business or doing it for passion, people who are in the service industry@selling a service or doing creative work it is not just selling your skills but also a part of yourself because your personality will be imprinted into your work or creation. If you are negative person, no matter how talented you are, things will likely turn negative.

People who have true confidence in their skills will not fear. Like the chinese saying goes by True gold will not fear fire (真金不怕火來燒).

Good night and this will be my last post/reply to this thread. Anyway I truly want to thank everyone (ncluding G-Man, red-eye, donald ong) who have posted replies which makes/push me to learn quite a few new things in life for these past 3 days such as the below:

1. DIY my own mannequin.
2. Found in youtube how to create lightbox for own product shoot.
3. Learn some minor tricks on Photoshop editing.
4. That some photographers are viewing or judging people through their coloured/tinted lens/visions.

At the end of the day, just honest yourself whether $5 per product is reasonable

1. DIY my own mannequin.
( you have amazing talent if you can do that .)

2. Found in youtube how to create lightbox for own product shoot.
( please come and share that how you take your product in light box and you manage to get white background. I believe all the beginner and experienced ppl will be truely appreciate your contribution to photography society )

3. Learn some minor tricks on Photoshop editing.

( Just from the cost breakdown, you assume 20% of cost for editing . $1 to edit 3 photo for the fashion product. My suggestion to u is to think about changing career in photo editing as no one can beat your price not just in Singapore even in the world.)

4. That some photographers are viewing or judging people through their coloured/tinted lens/visions.
( after shooting especially light pink colour, please don't come and ask why the colour in the photo is different from real.)

After go through all these, just ask yourself will you be doing again . If your answer is yes, just go in fashion photography career . There will be no competition for you in Singapore with unbeatable price.

Please come and share with us WE WILL BE TRUELY APPRECIATE YOUR KINDNESS AND GENEROUSITY

Good to know your background and truly understand what you say about attitude part.

Also glad that you have found your own solution.

One thing you need to understand that for a business to charge $5 per image isn't a rate that is able to to sustain themselves hence you should be able to see if from their point.

I wish you all the best.

If u factor in for the clothes that the TS going to take in the future and don't have to deal with this negativity, the effort isn't a waste of time.

I did not mean it is waste of time .

I just ask him to think himself and honest himself that things he has done are right or wrong .

Ppl make mistake but accepting that mistake is not easy for most of the ppl.

I pity your life-story, everyone has their own difficulties but that don't gives you the "privilege" of exploiting.

You yourself had got a damn good answer to why there are so many negatives opinions on your pathetic rates. Will the man-with-camera benefit AT ALL from shooting your FOUR PIECE garment???

Guess most of the replies are indirect saying the offer is "way too low" to 90% of the Photography service here, as you can see the big reaction. Perhaps TS just need to understand abit on photographer job scope. Bringing few thousand dollars equipment to set up and all the lighting (not mentioning the technical knowledge put into it) , time consumed and editing, i mean even just look at the taxi fare alone. I am sure TS will agreed it's worth more then $20 per trip? Just my point of view.

TS has already move on, won't be back to read this thread.

time to move on too.

thread closed.
