first, welcome to ClubSNAP,

second, I'm not Admin,

third, good to know you respect others' intellectual property.

forth, for $20, you can own the copyrights of the photos, that is super good deal to you.

five, I guess you knew a Hard Torso Mannequin cost around $70, cheapest studio rental is $35 per hour, low end photographers charging $35-$50 per hour......

six, good luck.

Hi Nina,

Have emailed u.

Cheers!

Dear catchlight,

Thanks for the tips and good wishing. I know the budget is super low but I am just starting off, plus I don't expect the photographer to buy a new mannequin just for the shoot, I was kinda hopping someone who already have one, plus I am did not mentioned it has to be a studio, Location is ok for me, basically I just plain white background which can be touch up anyway. He can also do it at my house or his/her place house which is fine by me.

I am looking for someone who I can work-on long term.

I think it makes more sense to work in McDonald rather than photographer . In McDonald, $6 net and I don't need to bring any of my equipment, I don't need to have any special knowledge ..
After the job done , just wash hand and go home happily ..

Now I need to bring a few thousand worth of equipment and set up , iron clothe , dress it. It is not the end. Go home and need to edit again. At the end the pay less than McDonald pay..

Even long term job, it makes sense to apply permanent post in McDonald ..

Are photographers that cheap these days??

Are you serious? $20 for a product shoot? Is our industry in so much sh!t right now?
You do realise how much time and expertise is required to get any form of respectable product photos? It is truly a sad case if a photog is willing to do a product shoot for less than what a minimum wage laborer in third world countries make.

Sorry for the rant..but this is truly unacceptable ...

Can use phone camera? An Xperia Z gives >10mp of details so surely can put on website ;p

I am absolutely speechless. Sorry TS, the way you make it sound (budget low, can touch up, not particular about location etc), you probably believe it's not such a tough job. Why not just shoot the products yourself?

Your reason (that you are on a budget) is patronising at best.

I know many start ups who do their own photography precisely because they are on a budget. And they do not use lack of budget as an excuse for offering a low price.

I can only wish you good luck.

you can save $19.50

buy mahjong paper $0.50.
Tape to your wall above your table or flat surface.
Place product on mahjong paper.

Take photo with your phone camera, if necessary or able, set the metering mode to spot meter.
Edit in GIMP (totally free). No operating system? Download Ubuntu. Also free. Has GIMP preloaded inside as well. No budget for internet? Go McD (maybe can see some photographers who are now making burgers instead). McD have free wifi.

Sorry if you do not have any hardware like laptop or PC or handphone with reasonable camera capability. I think I cannot help you save on this.

for product shot, the preparation of products before the shoot takes time, the more time spend on preparation the products, the less time needed on photoshop.
so to you you think is just a simply shot, inexperience photographers will also think that way, in the end spending hours and hours on photoshops,
if photographers farm out the retouching, it costs so much more than he charges his/her clients, so in the end the photographers either suck it up, or simply MIA, or just deliver the half-baked shots to you.

but even non paying assignments, someone will go and take up,
we won't understand why,
but for sure the photographers don't make a living out of it, don't need the money.

all what we can say is "good luck" to all of you.

R u doing website for client?. so if customer comes to u and say "since u already has a webserver, I don't need to pay for storage space. I'll pay u $5 per web page. U can come to my place to do"

as we can see from #6... there will also been people who will go for such jobs... so.... let's not waste our breath. catchlights has tried his best to educate noobs. still...

sighz... (i got to ask the Admins to build in a facepalm smiley into CS...)

Use Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41mp camera, even the Nat Geo photographer use it ;p
