Primary lens for your 7D

Which would be your primary lens on 7D

I had several good lenses and the 17-55 IS was only my last acquired lens becos I stubbornly "hang" on to L only.

I was using some good lenses such as 24-70L, 24-105L, 17-40L, 10-22 ... ... BUT when I had tried the 17-55IS, I was like wtf ... I should have bought the 17-55IS as the first lens!

How about 10-22 + 35f2 + 70-200 f4 IS
Do you guys think this is ok hence I am in the
progress to building up ?

the 24-70L's build quality is so much better. On top of that some people appreciate the extra reach more than the "wide angle" they get from 17-55.

Used to marvel and think highly of build quality.

BUT all that has changed ... you want the lens to produce nice pictures. Not a lens with G-shock capability.

Build should be secondary to anyone except to those who shoot in vietnam jungle. ;p

Then you should have gotten the 16-35 first:bsmilie:

The 16-35 is the only lens popular I have never owned. I borrowed 1 for about 30 mins from a fellow club student. For some reasons, the images I took was kinda soft and I shunned away from that lens since.

Maybe it was a lemon, I dun know ....I got the 17-40L instead thereafter. Maybe I should now acquire the 16-35 (mark2?) and complete my collection. heehee ;p

I am referring to the mark 2....

why so few ppl vote for 15-85? is it because it's new or because of the something else?

TS got to check if the build in flash can clear the lens barrel... for my ancient 17-35, my 10D build in flash need up to 28mm on the scale to clear the flash...

Still cannot...if use 16-35 build in flash is useless.

Too restrictive, and if you ever move on to 1D series or 5D....your investment will be wasted. EF-s lenses do not have very good resale value if they are old.

The resale value of the high end EF-S lenses such as the 17-55 f/2.8 is still quite reasonable. As for the lower end ones such as the kit lens, since there are so many WTS, the price is generally much lower since the supply > demand.

i notice unless it is sth very common like the kit lens 18-55, the lens' price does not drop much. LOL. some selling at even higher or 20 bucks less that the price of a new piece.

Ridiculous. haha

^^

Yeah , I don't get that reasoning where people would not buy a great EFS lens because they might switch to full frame in the future.
The EFS 17-55 will get you the best photos today for your 7D. Better than 24-70 and 24-105 or any other standard zoom.

Just make the most of it and then just worry about selling when its the time to switch to full frame. You may lose some money but them again you got to take photos which would be better than what you would have gotten with the full frame designed zooms. The depreciation isnt that bad either. Lowest I've seen is 1250, for a 1.5 year old. Not bad considering its now 1,500 (well yen appreciation did help )

Besides, the L lenses are older and they may be getting an update soon. So you'll prolly lose a lot more (24-70 IS). Notice that the BnS is suddenly getting flooded with 24-70s. :bsmilie:

Of course, if build quality/weather proofing/looks is a huge thing and matters as much as the IQ , then yeah get the L zooms. :D

The EFS 17-55mm is, IMO, the best lens in this range to compliment a canon crop body. If I ever needed a full frame, I'd then buy another lens to compliment it. Why bother about the future instead of getting the best out of your gear right now?

EF-S 18-55 IS the best i think.. ;p

using 15-85 for my 7D now
