Well, I didn't ask, and he didn't say.

In any case, the point is that the 30D can't possibly cost less than the 20D, GST or not.

in malaysia. the canon official shop sell 20D at higher price than 30D, i think about 100-200 SGD higher.

Yes, that puzzled me, really.
Is the lack of 20D stock caused the price to be higher than 30D. Currently, many shops offer promotion for 30D with good discount.
The question is will 30D price go up after promotion?:dunno:

i dont think so, considering electronic products tend to drop on prices after sometimes. i think its canon strategy to make sure people buy 30D

i hear about round of price cuts are coming in-line with the nikon price cuts effective today (1st june), and maybe in the light of the new nikon D2Xs .

any ideas?

Prices will be cut even if the competition does not release new models.

Supply and demand. As manufacturers ramp up production to full capacity and the initial shortages due to "new product syndrome" wears off, manufacturers must lower prices in order to sustain sales and prevent inventory build up in warehouses.

Haven't you noticed that prices of newly launched products are unusually high? That called cashing in on initial public euphoria. As that euphoria wears off, prices drop to their "actual" figures. As the product nears the end of production life, prices are lowered once again to clear out stock.

Marketing 101.

But the prices of lenses don't seem to fall ...... :(

lenses have longer life coz we can use it for a long time (unless canon cahnges mount). so the price reduction is low.

in jakarta, the most famous shop sell 20D about SGD 1,695 BO and SGD 1,780 kit, both with bonus of 2Gb CF
the price on 30D is SGD 2,150 for kit and SGD 2,015 for BO

this of course if you can find the best forex, but even so the different wouldnt exceed $10.

if you want to travel there of course, he he he

best deal has to be HK...the lowest for 30D when I was there last week was HKD 8,900 (about $1,860) but I was told by another CS-er that he saw one at HKD 8,700 (about $1,790)....as for 20D...lowest I saw was HKD 7,200 (about $1,480)

All above prices are just the body and standard box without any CF cards.

any particular shop you can recommend in HK?
but take note, the low price they quoted us is "water goods" price.. they only provide shop warrenty.. not int'l warrenty... with int'l warrenty the price will be higher.

I personally think that I rather spend more for the waranty. Feels more secure.

Are these prices - body only or body + kit lens?

John selling at $2200 with 1G CF and bag

On 5 July 2006, I bought my EOS350 at Parisilk whom I've done business with for 6 years and I find them extremely reliable and always competitive; I started buying there based on recommendation from colleagues and in my company we are a great many people who have bought stuff there for many years to high satisfaction. There is no haggling but you get a great deal from word go. I paid sgd 1,428 incl GST last week for the following package:

EOS 350 + EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 II
Sandisk CF Ultra II 1GB memory card
Canon EOS soft Bag
Tanner Lens cleaning kit 5 items set

I recommend Parisilk to anyone who don't like to haggle infininetely yet don't want to feel like a sucker the instant they check prices elsewhere. More details on www.parisilk.com

I doublechecked the price with CP on 9 July and they have same package/price; fairly confident that cannot be beaten right now in Singapore.

Second NavarroOne comment on Parisilk. Pretty good experience so far, price is always cheapest, or very close to the cheapest you can find in Singapore. Though their staff may not be expert on photography, but good service none the less.
