Came back from TK. The 70-200 seems to be out of stock! Price...nearly 3K! Wow! Better not sell mine! Should have got the 14-24 last week! Could have completed my trinity...

Maybe they increase the price, then give a discount during the Nikon Anniversary Sale back to the original price - *Voila*!

p.s. If you go to www.nikon.com.sg website now, the picture on their home page tells it all (click on the blue 'p' icon for 'Picturetown')!

I visited CP today, the 85mm f/1.4 is now $1.9

....wanted the 14-24...but no stock at CP, .......John 3:16 has one but was asking 2.7K plus....crazy price, so bought a 2nd hand sigma 14mm prime at 0.75K instead for now....Yen will drop sooner or later.

What goes up will come down.

Anyway, just get what you need no point beating the chest and cry foul.

Nobody or even the sales people in Nikon would want an increase in price in times like this.

Cos it will definitely affect demand and also the sales commission of not only Nikon sales ppl but also the retailer and down the chain.

However sometime hard decision have to be made and I guess it a question of the devil and deep blue sea for the management of Nikon in Japan.

As I say before,

1. If you need the lens or equipment for work then buy if not rent, whichever make more economical sense.

2. If money is of no issue or you have a iron rice bowl job which deliver $$ every 10th of the month, then buy and enjoy the simple pleasures in life in photography or even collecting equipment

3. If $$ is presently an issue or you are uncertain of your job, income, etc then keep the spare cash to tide thru the uncertain time. Use whatever equipment you have and polish up your skill instead of relying on newer equipt and technology. There are other priority that may need immediate attention.

Cheers and keep our chin up
:)

yep, no point crying foul at Nikon's price increase...agree with your pts...:)

you gotta be kidding me. holycrap, look at the increase of nikon 24-70. its like 1000 bucks.

this is unbelievable. US price increase by about 300 us dollars. and singapore price increase by 1000 sing dollars , lol. this is a joke.

i think there is a chance that the stores use this moment to rip the buyer off. i am not buying it.

Actually, there are a few hawkers who have reduced prices. Not many, but there are.

All hawkers complaint that rice was getting more expensive when the commodity prices increased and sored months back and justified pricing increased of our hawker food. do we see them charging less now when the commodities fever and petrol prices have dropped? didn't see that happening.

the price increase on 24-70 is 500 bucks... now going around 2.7-2.8K. So, it is almost in line with the US increase.

Not 1000 bucks increase...

Don't think it's fair for you to say that the stores use this moment to rip the buyer off. The stores are as worried as we are about the price increase coz they will not have business while the stock sits on the shelf.

Further, which store won't want to make money? If they don't, why are they running a store in the first place... thus, with every price increase, they will wait and see how the rest of the market respond.. hopefully the whole market will settle on a higher level so that they can make a little more.

net, the wallet is yours... buy or not, it's your decision, it should not have any relation with how the stores set their pricing (I bet you can always find one store selling cheaper than the rest or find an alternative like Tamron or Sigma).

with the huge increment , think got to look for other lens....

Any recommendation lens for Sigma, Tokina, etc on D700? ;p

What goes up must come down... hahaha...

i should have bought the 14-24 from MS last week... they quoted me $2270...
ahhhhhhh

Regarding all the recent price increases. Could the thread moderators that manage the sticky threads for the Nikon Pricing maintain the old pricescans from before this recent price increase and after?

I think it would be good to monitor how much the price increase has been from equipment to equipment. I'm quite suprised at these pricing strategies, almost like how they do it for luxury watch brands.

I know soe stores are using the excuse of price increase to increase the price of their current stocks... but if you look at it from another point of view, they'll need the extra cash to buy the new stock too.

just get info from my friend,it's really increase all the lens price,& Nikon DSLR like D3,D700,D300 all no more stock,it is really?:(

heh... hope you like the 14mm prime;)

heh...love it....

actually I suspect many stores are probably holding back their old stocks, and voila.....they will have stock once some announcement is made from Nikon....that's what one of dealer told me.

at this current economic situation, I doubt any store dares to hold back too much stock to profit since they needed to pay more for the new ones and likely to sell them much slower.

in times of urge and need (* called up a few shops to enquire while grounded)

prices seem to vary alot..

eg. 85mm F1.8 got quoted in variation from 650-690

50mm f1.8 from 185-200

50mm f1.4 D no stocks, AFS ard 820-860

sigma 30mm f1.4 from 730 to 780 (well sigma did increase price) and even heard grey sets increase too much such tt its not feasible to sell

shops called: Mscolor, LORDS, OP, John, AP :)

sorry guys, only prime lens since i am looking for a few rite now haha
