Friendly reminder to all...please take a coffe break, cool down, and then come back if you want to but only to be more civil and considerate in your remarks and comments. No need to get personal here.

i simply love your signature my moderator "roygoh"...it really fits in on any type of discussion...

Gangster gangsters gangsters everywhere.....:bsmilie:

the leniency in gangsters law are in effect:sticktong

to the TS.. keep your cool... DP will always be around whether you like it or not this is Clubsnap. his choice of words may be a dagger to you... but to me its just :dunno: dont take it personally...cant you just appreciate the hes now showing his portfolio on his signature or maybe i just notice it now. maybe you can take pointers from his work... well if he really practice what he preach.. so if you put up a post for C&C expect everything... masters ,gurus, wannabes, or anyone who just appreciate your work. masters, gurus might not like it, but others may. if you want it to be OOF by PP so be it... why bother explain..

im also a newbie thrice slammed by DP or maybe more, if hes not on my thread i had a gut feel that i have improve:sticktong. but you can never be consistent every now and then you can see DP hes a free QC of you work.. isnt it great?? but of course he can never stop me with the messy hair... who cares anyway.. only him and quite a few. but does it matter?

oh for my CC.. i dont care about OOF.. but the framing doesnt work for me. i like the skin tone on the leg up to the shoulder but the face seems to be a little bit fair. post more theres should be alot more of portia and better shots.

to the TS if you cant take CC dont post. DP for sure cant take CC thats why i havent seen hes photos here. so take him as an example... okidok

JohnnyM, be more open-minded about the whole situation ..... most of us have gone thru more or less the same treatments you are getting now, but as time goes by, it will improve and you'll know that you have actually improved!
If you have been here long enough, you would have seen what Mr Zeckson Chow has received when he first started posting here ...... compare to what you are getting now, those comments from DP & Co. to you are like sweet, tender whispers.... but look at Zeckson's postings now ..... everyone is saying only good things about his images..... not a single bad comment!
Life's short ..... let's move on.

I would suggest to add a few words regarding the photos when posting for comments. In that way, viewer like myself will understand what you are trying to show us.

Exactly. His positive attitude is something I admire.

I always believe this. When i post pictures up for C&C i will expect all sort of comments. I will look up for profile (just do a search in the forum) of those people who has made comments and will based on their work to evaluate why they gave such a negative feedback.
If their work are those sub-standard type i will just think again to see if their comment was valid. You may choose to explain further or ignore their comment. If their work can justify for the comment, i'll think again and again to find out why such a negative comment. Ask them for detail of why was it that bad.
Build up own portfolio, show all your best pictures to everyone and naturally people will be on your side.

In the forum, it is unavoidable to have people with different frequency around, have to give and take.

This photo is neither here nor there. Bad cropping, hair's abit out of place and well, like it was rightly pointed out by someone else, this is nothing much more than a snap shot of a pretty face.

JohnnyM, it may not feel good to have someone critique your work in such a manner but neither is it polite for you to "retaliate" but getting all personal and angsty. It simply puts you in a bad light and further emphasize how common your photo is.

Take some time to reflect upon your own reactions and especially your photo. I am sure it will get better with more practise.

Deadpoet; Kudos to you for posting the way you did and maintaining your sense of decorum. It is very much appreciated. Welcome back to P&P.

Now that is the one very good healthy statement.

When someone comes to Clubsnap, normally it's not about bashing session. If your photos are ok(not that I am saying yours is bad), there will be little or no comment. In fact it will be full of praises from many walks of life.

One photo will really tell a thousand words...............good and bad. If you think your photo is good and up to your mark, by all means be proud of it. Take criticism to a more positive way than negative.

Some of us are working photographers and we take criticism from our customers. I learn a lot from them as my customers comes from all walks of life. Some of them have a good vision but poor executer in terms of technicality on photography. I will sometimes reshoot on some of my projects because I am not delivering what they are asking for because I am shooting my way and my style. But what amazes me is when I did a reshoot for them, I deliver images which I never thought I would do. After that, I learn that some (not all of them) have good vision and critic makes me a better photographer.

Some comments on this thread is not called for but as I mentioned earlier.........not everyone is a good critic. Be humble and you will learn to differentiate a good critic and a poor one.

For me, part of me is about $$$$$ which is a reality side as a full time photographer. The side of me is about creating my own imagery as a artistic photographer. It's the artistic side that drives me to improve my skills to a new level.

One person that is really taking criticism very well is Zeckson Chow. Until now I think in the history of Clubsnap, he is the most improved photographer. He is no hero but from zero knowledge on portrait shooting, he learn many comments (good and bad) which helps him to improve his skills.

As for the TS photo, it's very subjective. I have a photo like yours too. It's really a hate or love photo. I have some people who loves still blurred and slightly OOF photo of mine but as long I think my money making images I am selling well, I will need to take all comments in a positive way.

This is a slightly blurred and OOF photo of mine.

The well-meaning "advice" here ignores the history of animosity between the two actors. One should understand how the animosity came about first. And if one understands that, then one can see if the advice is appropriate, and indeed, if it is directed at the right party in the first place.

If you've been to Johnny's photo website, you ca actually find some good photos there, especially those that he took off the streets of Shanghai.

What I feel about his posting here, and it's my own personal opinion, is that he posted not for critic, but seems to be out to spite an individual or a group of indivduals here.

This just an honest personal opinion here la.

I can take critique; just go look at my previous postings. If DP gives a good comment, I'll probably say thank you (and possibly remark that it was unusual for him to do so), but as it stands, he doesn't seem to be able to conduct himself civilly and often becomes unnecessarily antagonistic in his exchanges (a fact I think can be backed up by many others and his own postings). For me at least, if you behave like a jerk, you will be treated like. That should give other people incentive for being nice, no?

The picture wasn't to TL him; my reply to his comment was. I don't have anything against his C&C; just giving him a taste of his own medicine.

There is a difference between being a perfectionist and being anal; I am inclined to think that he belongs to the latter group.

The quarrel is between me and him; I don't recommend antagonizing people like him unless he comes step on your toes first.

Thank you for your compliment. I wish I had a wider lens or stepped back though; her head looks chopped off.

Frankly, I'm not so sure where the focal point is either. When I took the picture, I was just damn happy to have her fill my frame.

On closer inspection, the OOF is indeed a little disconcerting, but I blur most of my pics in PP anyway, so I left it at that.

I'm glad you liked the picture. The contradictions occur when you factor in another dimension to the composition of the image, and it has more to do with the interaction with her rather than the actual image itself. Those thoughts are personal, and I'm not sure if it's appropriate for the forum, so I left them out.

Flogging a dead horse there. :bsmilie: Just to clarify, do you mean that the image is out of focus, or that there is no focal point in the photo ?

You make it too easy.

edit: Oh, and watch your spelling? You seem to have a tendency to get incoherent when you get excited.

Guys... chill out....:)

Photography, like art, is very subjective. While it may be nice to some, it may not be so to others..

So, let's see how we can learn from one another and make better pics..

All these unconstructive comments and words of anger is really unneccessary.

This is a site where we learn to appreciate pics and not make it a war zone...

So...guys ... have a wonderful weekend ya....;)
