PocketWizard for Canon - FINALLY!

Hi phoakm,

u mentioned that the first release PW uses US frequency, do u mean this coming first release of the mini and flex or are you referring to the first version of pocketwizards prior to PW II? got a bit confuse....

For clarification, I mean for mini and flex, which they are first release in US first. For world launch, need further updates. :)

Wah... these new Pocketwizards are much cheaper than Radiopoppers. Easy to use so more. Hawt damn!

Have a look at PW's website. It's quite self explanatory. PW use different frequency band in different country. We fall under the 433MHz range. US uses 344.04 to 354.00 MHz band, licence by FCC/US.

Hmm, their HyberSync technology is quite remarkable, it actually sends the signal BEFORE the camera normally would.. Basically enabling higher than x-sync speeds for any flash/strobe..

Droooolz...if the price is as reflected on the review it is reasonable for the features...

So fast and furious.... never a chance to save up the money.....

Hi phoakm and kaomoo...

Thanks for the information and clarification. After i read the link kaomoo gave and saw the difference in frequency between USA and Singapore, I called up my friend to check his version of PWII, since he bought them when he was stationed in the states and had brought them back to sg. I asked him if the PWS worked in SG. He says yes , no problem.

On PW website it says:

The units are set to different frequencies. In the United States, the FCC reserves the 344-354 MHz frequency for PocketWizard systems. In Europe, regulations assign 433-434 MHz. A PocketWizard sold in the USA bears the letters “FCC” on the outer shell; a European version will have the letters “CE.”
Singapore 433 MHz - CE

and i asked my friend to check his PWII if it bears the FCC or CE letters......and he says FCC which means it operates on 344-354 MHz frequency...but yet it works in Singapore.

so now i dont know if the frequency matters a not. any thoughts?

Thanks!

hmm, would the transmitter be able to relay the hypersync instructions to PW plus II units instead of just the new transceivers? It'll be really great if that could be done. Then I'll pick the transmitter up.

Different mhz in relationship to different country has nothing to do with if the equipment wil work or not. THink about a walkie talkie. Why do sim lim shops list them as "for export only"? Do they not work in singapore? They do and you can purchase them with a NRIC which the shop will take down. Are they used in singapore, hell yes, of course they are. Or simpler, you buy a remote control toy in USA with some FCC sticker saying it runs on xxx or yyy Mhz, bring in to Singapore, it works too...of course.

The respective government just try to control the spectrum of the frequency used for what equipment, that is all. Pocketwizards made in US will work in Singapore and vice versa.

Yes, it will work regardless of the frequency used, but just beware that you can be fined if you are caught. Although the chances of actually someone actually catching you is quite remote. There are regulations for the use of frequency bands for good reason - to avoid frequency interference. You never know what equipment operates in the 344-354 MHz band in Singapore, and using the wrong frequency band could potentially interfere with some life or mission critical equipment.

Update: Just read from Rob's review that the U.S./Canada version of the FlexTT5's working range is reduced by the RF noise coming from the Canon Speedlite 580EX II, 580EX and 430EX. The European FlexTT5, which operates on a different set of frequencies, are not affected.

Yes, it can be done.

Need to let the PW learn each other.

But something need to take note. You need to buy equipments with the same frequency range. Like the lightmeter bought recently can only work with FCC frequency PW. It won't be able to trigger using CE frequency. Just to caution the purchasers that they need to consider this before buying them.

apart from the fact that the US sets won't talk to the Eur sets, there's no difference in which one to buy, is it? :dunno:

tfs! i want to have one once it arrived singapore shelves... ;)

Yes bro, but it does affect the subsequent equipments which support wireless. Let's say you have a CE frequency, it won't trigger the equipment with FCC frequency and vice versa.

It is important what frequency you intended to use. In Sing, most wireless equipment here uses CE. You may have to wait for a while before CE PW come out.

The frequency knowledge is gained when I play RC. Which most of the racers preferred FCC to prevent frequency clash and it tends to be stronger so that the car doesn't lose control during the race. :)

Most probably it will end up like other PWs ..... you won't get it easily from the shelve. The last information known is OP is selling PW but in CE frequency.
