Wondering if we can buy ac3 in CP but use with pocket wizards bot from states or again cannot due to frequency difference ?

Their specifcation did not mention.

AC3 Specification

It is prefered to get the AC3 from the location which matches your frequency to avoid complication.

I had ordered mine from B&H. Still in backorder.

Just sharing since asked this question before the AC3 was released - got this reply from PW... but then I guess it's always better to err on the side of caution

Thanks for your inquiry. We don't have a specific date for ZoneController availability in Singapore right now. It'll likely be available shortly after it's on shelves in the US, which is looking like it'll be sometime in July.

The ZoneController is frequency independent, since it doesn't contain any kind of radio. If you purchase one from a dealer in the US, it should work fine with a CE PocketWizard.

The best way to find PocketWizard dealers is the Dealer Locator on our website. You can see it here:

If you have further questions, please reply to this email and keep the case number in the subject line.

Simple. The only difference is the Mini & Flex can do ETTL & manual while Plus II can do only manual.

AC3 has the benefit to control lighting output on the flashguns. No need to walk over to the flashguns individually to do settings. ;p

Exactly..which is wat I am trying to avoid doing...walk back and fro..lol. My pw not ce..so that is why I am wondering if I can buy from CP when it arrives and hope there is no conflict...since there is a post with reply from PW that should not be a prob since no radio frequency is used. Too bad cannot control output with pw plusII..if not HO SEI AH!

In addition to ETTL, some notable features differentiating the Flex/Mini vs the Plus II are
A) hypersync and auto FP switchover - which is a big deal if you were shooting in daylight and wanted fill-flash AND subject isolation with low f/stops / or other cases where you'd want faster than sync shutter speeds (freezing certain types of action, overwhelming strong ambient light sources without the use of ND filters and stopping down beyond diffraction)

B) the ability to control studio flash output (if you were using certain Elinchrom and Alienbees models and purchased the corresponding PW ST4 receiver for the Elinchrom/ AC9adapter for the Alienbees)

C) a hotshoe and an attachment point for 1/4 tripod screws - which is useful since except for the 580EXII, I think none of the current Canon EX flashes have a PC-sync port, which is the only way to trigger flashes or strobes with the Plus II...of course you could save some money with getting a Plus II clone like the Phottix Atlas, which does have a hotshoe and a screw attachment point.

D) a USB port - so you can update firmware as and when it becomes available. Plus II doesn't have this but should work fine precisely because it isn't ETTL and ostensibly involves simpler one-way communication between the receiver and transmitter.

Well explained.

Hi,
Any Bro here encounter issue of the 580 EX II unable to "fully" lock (slide the locking level all the way to right) when attached to the hot shoe of the Mini/Flex?

Test the 580EX II on a DSLR, there's no problem of it "fully" lock but when try on a mini/ flex, the locking level can only push to 3/4 way to the right, didnt want to force it as it might break the flash locking level.

Yes, the 580EX II doesn't lock well on my Mini & Flex too. I the Mini & Flex hotshoe was designed to satisfy a variety of Canon flashes, hence the compromise.

My AC3 finally arrived! After 3 months of waiting.
Below are some images of the AC3.

Tried it in yesterday shoot. The flash output power can be adjusted remotely through AC3.
Manual is not an issue.

OMG, i thought you would have been playing with it for some time already. how come wait 3 months so long? in fact i thought CP had it and on shelves , but i did not go down to check. maybe i should bring my non ce PW there and check see if the ac3 controller in Sg can work with non CE pw a not.

I had ordered it since before launch. But the item is always out of stock so I have to wait till now that B&H shipped to me. I had used it on the Mini which is FCC frequency. It works. ;)

Video on the AC3.

Tried changing the settings of the AC3 to see the difference flash power output.
The PW AC3 was attached to PW Mini TT1 which was attached on the Canon 5D MKII.
A Canon 580EXII was attached onto the PW Flex TT5.

Settings on the:
Canon 5D MKII: Aperture Priority mode at f2.8, ISO 100.
PW Mini TT1: Control TL
PW AC3: Zone A, Auto mode
Canon Flash 580EXII: ETTL
PW Flex TT5: Control TL, Zone A

The shutter remains around 1/6s during the testing

Below are the test images showing the spread of light from the flash.

Do take note the power settings for PW AC3 can be adjustable using the PW Utility Software. Enjoy! :)
