pls bring back buyers/sellers rating system

this has been asked before. i believe the Admins' response was that the iTrader system (good as it was) strained the server resources so much so that it created a lot of bugs and crashes. bearing in mind that our servers had just gone through a catastrophic hardware and database failure not too long ago, i think Admins will be hesitant to bring it back.

NW, fair enough.

I guess the other option for CSers which won't overload the server is to create a "hall of shame" thread in Consumers Corner to name the bad sellers and warn other CSers.

haha... this is gonna sound stupid... but are there any other systems that could be implemented similiar to itrade?
couldnt we do it like a seller fame option? then allow members to up and down fame... i think will be less taxing, but then it would be open to idiots who defame for fun...

just encountered an insincere and irresponsible seller, mr lee (hp: 98122988) on this thread http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=718086
who, after making arrangements to meet up at his place, blk 245 serangoon ave 2, this afternoon, did not even bother to answer any calls/sms after flying aeroplane.

i'm other CSers have similar horror stories to tell.

at least with a rating system, other CSers can be warned to stay clear of such ppl in the future.

In fact this thing is "settlelable":

1. For anything above $200, a scanned copy of the buyer and seller's NRICs must be exchanged. CS must keep a copy of both copies. If you want to sell your stuff, you need to submit the scanned IC; otherwise you cannot post.
2. Make it compulsory for the buyer and seller to meet. Disable the price tag online (just put how many percent off the original) so that nobody can know what price the thing is until they meet the buyer/seller. This is also to discourage online trading or bargaining to prevent people from getting cheated. Make them meet so that both can have a fair deal or bargaining after checking out the product. We must make sure that every transaction is carried out after the object has met the eyes of the buyer. Don't display email. Just send messages via the CS inbox system. If any incidents occur, the mod can dig out the messages as evidence.
3. For any hiding/cheating/dealing without integrity, the mods can just post his/her full name in the hall of shame. Since the IC has address, it would be easier to locate that person.

^_^

If its too much of a hassle, people might just opt for alternative such as Ebay. And there might be other concerns to be addressed in order to achieve such system.

but i wont dare to say all senior members must be reliable either:sweat: hence the need for a rating system:thumbsup:

Yes, I fully agree with u..got one time buying batteries from a senior member ( if u r the one who read this..u know who i m refering to)..after all the arrangement, he made me waited for quite long with all the excuses he gave me..not gentleman at all but I respect him becos he still a snr so I will not disclosed his nickname here

rating on b&s is just a guide. at the end of the day you still need to be a smart buyer and seller!

stick to the basic rules and you will minimise your wastage of time.

i agree. people always say reserve reserve but later fly kite. damn irritating

a guide is always better than none! sometimes i find myself dnno who to let go my item to, when got same price.

so now i just arrange common time ask them down to bid;)

There're always pros and cons to everything.

Like some of the cases that you people have listed - that doesn't necessarily constitute a bad deal or bad seller. There's always a fine line.

A seller is in a hurry to sell and wanted to clear his sale by today - you all agreed to deal tomorrow, but someone comes along with the same price and is able to clear it today... I'm sure if you're in the position of a seller and in serious urgent need of cash, this might be a more realistic deal than something that may not happen tomorrow.. because you yourself might be an irresponsible buyer as well, right?

If everybody were to be able to rate one another over your SUPPOSED grievances, then it would be entirely unfair. I "feel" that I have been flown an aeroplane, so I give a bad rating... But hey it's really but a feeling, whether or not it's really an outrage against yourself is really pretty subjective.

yep yep agree. people using it should be aware.

close the deal faster. normally if time permits and the deal is good i will meet on the same day. the longer you wait the higher chance he may bail out on you.

i agreee. sometimes when reserve another guy can deal today makes u v sian... dunno to honor your word to wait for the guy come back or to deal first. i try to ask for deposit if the guy is really keen

I fully agree with YOH, your smart ideas will not deter irresponsible acts, it will just deter everyone from using CS for deals..
Why cause so much trouble for everyone because of the 10-15% Bad eggs?..
In fact.. your ideas seems so draggy i stopped reading by point 2 midway..

least you could do is inform the original buyer that another buyer has given interest to the item being sold. that way if he is really keen, he will try harder to close the deal today. after all, the point of keeping the item "on reserve" is to give him priority. otherwise, why give false assurance of "reserving" if you don't plan on honoring your word? :nono:

we could. but we can't guarantee it would turn it into a bitchfest of "your word against mine". even worse, people might end up slandering each other and wat is posted online stays online. CS is in no position to mediate, and we can't.

CS is not the police. we have no legal authority to aak for your i/c.

even if we could, seeing the sheer amount of posts each day on all the buy/sell sub-forums... would you like to do it full-time to coordinated, bearing in mind the entire CS admin team are volunteers and are not paid?

Of course la, we all know the difficulty. Like I said before, we appreciate the work done by the mods and admins. We shall wait until CS becomes a private limited.

frankly most of the recent problems are mainly with "new" members. seriously, you see quite a few members for 1-3 post posting stuff for sale in CS.

I think a better way is to make B&S available to members with some history, at least 50 posts?

Prefably a number BIG enough so that people will not try to post senseless stuff to up post count. (mods can always remove such accounts easily as it is very obvious)

This will not tax CS server resources and helps buyers and sellers to judge the integrity of the other party from his history.

A couple of points to note:
  1. Minimum post count concept will encourage more senseless posts which will indirectly increase the workload of the moderating team.
  2. Imposing such requirement will deter people from joining Clubsnap, especially those who would like to make use of Clubsnap's forum to sell their used items.
  3. Having a significant number of posts doesn't really tell much about one's integrity if he/she has yet to trade before.

I have deal with a few 0 post count CSers recently and they are all nice people. Seriously speaking, posting more on CS will not make anyone a better person. A lousy seller will always be a lousy seller regardless of his post count.
