Beautiful photos as usual. Wonder how you preserve the blue sky in IR photos like this? I have an IR converted K100D cam in hand right now, but I see white and washed out skies in all my testing photos

hrm, that shouldn't be the case, perhaps if you could post them up somewhere and provide me with the links i might be better able to provide an explanation.. :)

Okay, here is an original one, full size:

Can't remember if the sky was like that, but I think it had some blue 'cause the Sun was out in the back. I'll do more test this coming week :)

ahhh, infrared photography gives such tones, it looks about correct to me, still slightly off but nothing that shooting in raw won't correct (select the tree leaves as white point).. exposure is perfect too..

you won't actually get a blue sky right away, more like a yellowish/sepiaish/reddish toned sky.. would need to do channel swapping as stipulated in this thread. as you can see there, the first picture is also not toned blue at first.

here i think the sun was not very strong, i.e. maybe it was covered by clouds, either that or the sky over at this side is very cloudy, so there are too many clouds to show a lot of tonal differences. generally very distinct clouds would look awesome in ir, when they are not then it will not look so nice and the colour will end up looking more like duotone than anything else

so anyways, i did some pp on the image

basically auto levels, channel swap, some shadow lifting, contrast adjustments and exposure/gamma adjustment (upwards).. conditions don't look very optimal for good ir.. but i think it would have looked very nice with the right sort of clouds present :)

Thanks for the tips and explaination. We'd been having raining days last week, not really great for IR photos I guess (my excuse anyway ;)) Hope the weather would be better this coming week.

BTW, shooting IR w/ a converted K100D is so much easier than w/ a normal IR filter :D

Haven't got chance to fly on that thing yet. Looks impressive. Better try it before it becomes the 2nd tallest in the world :bsmilie:

Haven't used MF lens to take my kids for a while. Tried K20D+K50/1.4 combo over the weekend, quite like the results.
