Thanks guys.:)

I am using the DA55-300 as more of a landscape lens than anything else these days:bsmilie:

Airconvent, those NDP shots were from 2-3 weeks ago. Yesterday, I changed my plans at the last moment and went to the Marina Barrage instead of the Merlion, to take some night shots as well. I meant Woonsin and his friends there too :)

Hi Skypacker,

Yes i met you by chance when I saw your back. Your night photos are so good  I have not put my images yet.

Hey Lawrence, great composition and caption!

Suggestion, perhaps you can mask the SLR and then slightly desaturate the colours on the book.
coz now the model seems to be fighting for attention here :bsmilie:
Tks hamustar,Haha is my intention..:bsmilie:
Lawrence, nice idea! I understand it's really sexy new toy!
Tks for viewing bro.
Spot on concept shot, man.

Even the brown sofa and the ME SUPER's brown casing match!

Hey! ya hor.. now then i know.
Tks for viewing prince.

Hope you guys don't find this boring, one more to share & this time i convert to B&W.

now i know what the criticisms of pentax AF-C are about.. horizontal panning still works well but for subjects moving towards the camera, not so good..

Exactly..as long as the subjects are far away and in a straight line perpendicular to your line of sight, it's reasonable ..not great, but can be coaxed into giving a decent photo or two. Actually, you can also get the same result without AF-C..even manual prefocusing works;p. It's when the subject moves towards you that the tension begins.

I don't think it even 'tracks' the subject, more like initiate a focusing action every half a second or so. And bcos the shutter can trip even if the subject is not in focus, oof photos are rather common, even for subjects tt remain the same distance frm cam. Lucky i don't shoot much sports!

That's right, SAFOX VIII has no predictive tracking AFAIK. It just seems to redo the focus every n seconds and if your subject is at the selected focus point, you're in luck, it will focus, otherwise, it hunts all over again.

That said, none of the middle-range cams from the others have predictive tracking AFAIK. Among the APS-C offerings, only the 50D, A700 and D300 have predictive tracking...the last two being pretty damn good.

Thanks Lawrence. I have always enjoyed listening to MJ's rise-to-fame songs during those early days ... he was talented alright. Personally I still prefer his original 'face' and songs.

Thanks Hamustar. That is a brilliant idea. Over the course of the year, we can see all facets of the moon ... and perhaps ChangEr and the Rabbit (plus mooncakes) too! :bsmilie:

My few cents on this.
I find it useful to go MF with the subject moving towards the camera. Just pre-focus on the area where I'd expect the subject to move over. Then its a matter of waiting. It helps to keep one eye on the viewfinder and the other on the overall area so that I can track that the subject is closing in, rather than rely on the tunnel vision of the viewfinder, which may be already too late when the subject is spotted. Once the subject approaches or is very near the zone of focus, fire off (it will be better w/ multiple shots). You'd have to play around with when to press the shutter as each individual has his/her own reaction time, and subject speeds vary.

agreed, i tried to pre-focus at formula drift at the turn where the car was drifting head on to me. but bcos of the slow shutter speed (1/100s) i was using for panning, the car was "focus blurred" as the focus cannot keep up with the car throughout the exposure (kind of like subject blur due to lousy panning). ended up using a faster shutter speed to prevent that. furious dial-spinning!

We may be thousand miles apart, but I saw the same full moon on a cloudless sky last night in HCM. Unfortunately my FA*28-80 cannot have the reach as a tele.
