Pictures from NEX 7, Thread I

It's a versatile lens but I sort of given up on it after using it for awhile (less than a month). Will be interesting to see the IQ from the new 16-50 lens though. Any links?

I found some full-size sample photos by the 16-50mm on one of the new 16-mp bodies on a review website about 10 days ago (forgot to bookmark as usual). The shots at 16mm looked almost as bad as the 16mm f/2.8 wide open on the NEX-7.

THEN . . . last Friday I shot with the lens (on a 5R, I think) at a Sony store. Even at f/3.5 the corners were actually decent, and contrast looked good throughout the range. All in all, the lens did MUCH better "in person" than in the website's sample photos. Maybe the in-camera jpeg processing corrected CA and distortion; but who cares, as long as a good photo comes out of the camera? I may even grab a copy a few months from now when people are dumping them off for next to nothing in B&S.

This is twice in a row that "sample photos" on the web were much worse than what I saw when I actually tried a lens. I'd hate to think it's sample variation; but I'd hate even worse to think that supposedly trustworthy reviewers shoot to make certain brands look bad on purpose.

Great to know. Thanks for sharing. Guess we just haf to really test it hands on to really compare the performance between the 2 kit lenses... Just wondering if performance wise on the 16-50 will be better on the 5R as compared when mounted on the NEX 7? Hmm... :what:

Yeah, guessing game again... LOL

1. Nikkor 28

2. Kit Lens 18-55

Correct? I just compare the details on the white eraser & the edge sharpness on the keyboard keys on the left...

Honestly, when I transfered the 2 images to flicker, I can't remember which is which. I look at both raw images again and the only clue is that the kit lens always need a slower shutter speed at the same aperture as my Nikkor 28f2.8. In this case, the Nikkor was shot at f4, 1/50 ISO 800 while the kit was at 28mm, f4, 1/40, ISO 800.

My conclusion is that the kit lens 18-55, at between 24mm to 50mm is very usable and for simple snap shots it is a very good lens. I shoot raw normally and all I have to do is to adjust the tone curve slightly.

Could you reshoot both at the same focal lenth @ 19mm and same aperture @ f/3.5 focusing to infinity on the same ISO and speed? Will be able to gauge based on the edge sharpness and to my knowledge, Sigma 19mm performs much better in such scenario. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have the Siggy 19f2.8. I sure like to do a more detailed test if I can lay my hands on both the Siggies against the kit lens. Personally, I have used many kit lenses in the past and I feel the this Sony 18-55 is a keeper. All one needs to do is to adjust the tone curve slightly, with either the raw or jpec images as most of its images will tend to be flat.

A shot from Sigma 19mm f/2.8 from my wife's NEX F3, as this is a very instantaneous shot due to the fact that she is taking the landscape around Marina Barrage and suddenly Mr LKY appears from no where in the buggy zooming by. She managed to capture the moment. Cheers.

Thanks bro for guessing sadly none of the above :-)

The 1st(flower) and the last (uncle) I used Jupiter-9 85mm f2.0 shots both wide open. Process RAW using LR. The rest are Jupiter-3 50mm f1.5 all taken wide open same goes RAW process in LR as I shoot RAW no JPEG for me :-)

yeah was surprise you got the focal lenght almost spot on :-) or you guess it based on my previous posting?

Yeah the Jupiter-3 bokeh is pleasing this is my 1st time shooting this lens night/early evening. I think I found my travel 50mm lens as this is pretty small (M39/LTM)

Awesome stuff bros. More more. Cheers.

Maybe u can do a comparison review between yr 50s. Sharpness, IQ & Bokeh. Coz d jupiter's Bokeh looks good. Supposed becoz it was a sonnar or planar copy? Same formula I think.

Hi bro yeah I need to do that one time all my 50's and my 85/90's :-) lenses need to overcome my laziness 1st haha and I am not good in doing review bro maybe just do a image comparison :-)

Yeah the jupiter-3 is cz sonnar copy I dont know if my if was correct but these are blue prints that was taken after the war.... I think that's one reason why All Jupiter internal design almost didn't change since then....
