Photoshop Speed test for both Macs and PC.

pentium d 930 3.0ghz dual core 1 gb 677 ghz ram = 52.34 seconds with itunes playing and firefox running

wah very good leh...i have the same config with 3.2GB RAM and that's the timing (52sec) i can achieve

i tried the test at applecentre orchard on an intel imac 2.1ghz and 1.5 gig of ram with only photoshop CS active. Best timing i got was 1:43.

so it's true that photoshop isn't exactly optimized for the intel macs.

The Yonahs (used in the Intel macs and also the new core solo and core duo notebooks) are 667MHz FSB chips. They lack the raw bandwidth when it comes to streaming data. Partly also because they simply run at slower raw clockspeed. Their FP is also weaker than the P4's and A64's and simply suffer when it comes to applications like PS, video encoding etc.. For gaming, they're clock for clock, superior to almost all other chips in the Windows platform.

hmm could the fact that it's running on rosetta and being emulated for the moment contribute to the sameness in speed?

The other apps are blazing fast though, those that have had their universal binaries released

nope, i can double confirm this, i did the test twice with my girlfriend and my staff friend taking timing. same time for both rounds. 1:41 and 1:43 to be precise.

Oh yah and i followed the instructions on the 1st page to a T, cause i logged into cs to view this thread before the test.

Office apps launch awfully fast not just on the Yonahs but the Dothans as well. They are smaller and fit more readily into the fairly large 2MB cache on the a/m processors. Makes them perfect processors for laptops used solely for powerpoint presentations/ word/ web browsing etc..

Emulation will probably impact the performance in Photoshop but the Yonahs don't actually come close to the Prescotts or Athlon64's either way since them lack the raw bandwidth and FP power.

That's terrible. It's due to the lack of optimised code for x86 in the current version of CS2 for Mac.

Excellent! I would expect that kind of performance from a Core Duo 2.26.

i got the base model from US
nx9420 with 1.66ghz and 1920x1200 screen with 100Gb 7.2k sata
I upgraded the ram myself and bought the processor from ebay.
now i got a 1.66ghz dual core sitting in my drawer.
