The K8n-SLI is not a AM2 platform, it doesn't support DDR2 memory.
Most of us wouldn't touch a non-enterprise, Maxtor drive. The Seagate/ Western Digital/ Hitachi SATA drives are a much safer bet.

oops...sorry. wasn't aware that k8n-SLI doesn't support DDR2 memory. my mistake ;p

i wouldn't think that maxtor is really "less enterprise" than something like seagate. I've got pretty bad experiences with Seagates - especially at an "enterprise" level. I agree Hitachi's a good - especially those that are dual-ported, dual bearing in the enterprise space.

I am convinced now that the brand of RAM does make the difference. I used to be skeptical.

The chipset used on the rams do matter slightly.. Especially when you start overclocking them.. You'll be able to see the difference in benchmarks.. Some ram chips perform better than others although they are at the same clockspeed and latency settings.. Probably some optimizations in the throughputs.

My previous studio uses Dell Optiplex for their PC-based DI stations. No problem, what-so-ever!

I used to have a Dell Optiplex GX300 at home for Photoshop work, and I have absolutely no problem with it. My only problem came from Windows 2000 Professional.

Currently, I am using a self-assembled Pentium 4 CPU unit running on Windows XP Professional and a Mac Powerbook G4.

There is always room for improvement but since it's DELL, you have to becareful what you change. Some parts are under warranty and make sure you know that. This system is more than enough unless you are looking for the top of the range. For 1988, it's a steal plus you are able to get support by them. Make sure you purchase the extended warranty as it's quite useful......

I believe that there is a system already faster than quad G5.. that would be the Quad Single core opteron 2.8G. 2x2.8G is already 23s. 4x2.8G would prolly be around 11-15 secs. since quad G5 would be a quad processor..

however that test would not be conducted by me. I am not able to even justify the cost of such. so far keeping both cores utilized is already a problem.. having quad core is only going prove how long they can idle. :bsmilie:

anyway only the tyan supports 8 CPU AMD opterons.

I believe sun systems has already 16 way opterons.

Aiyo, I think that's a little unreachable for consumer like us. You already mentioned it's Sun Systems.....not a consumer model. If there is a Quad Single core Opteron how much would that be and who is using it at the moment? Is it selling at SLS yet?
