@ Simon, thanks sharing ur technique!! may i ask what 20s x9 exposure? u took 9 shots of 20s each and chose the best shot?

sorry bro, really love ur landscapes and keen to learn some.. first stop.. need to get a good ND filter..

ND filters got colors? Black ones are good??

srry and whats pp filteR?

20s x 9 exposure mean our in camera function (multi exposure 9 image)
PP filter mean Post process colour filter

I am using a DIY ND filter. It's a black glass :)

the details and dof is awesome with only f8. like the idea of using a small LED light to illuminate, search and assist focus.

but find i cumbersome to have to fix it to a bracket. the overall setup weight is pretty heavy and movement is restricted for me.

I had disliked using a tripod too when shooting macros with a DSLR.
However, I'm real glad the Q made me re-look and re-think how it can be done, so ended up I've picked up a new method and find that it comes with the advantage of better keeper rate, option to do focus stacking and be more relaxed.

I now take a more relaxed approached to the whole thing.
Setup the equipment and mount it on a tripod.
Since the setup is no longer being carried but has grown its own 3 legs, I am actually using less effort instead of more. :D

reading your post had given me a new perspective. i was in the shoot more post more phase when i gave up on my macro journey. technically it was also getting more difficult. i was pushing for f20 stop and beyond but just could not get enough light to the subject. i tried so hard, my flash died on me. and that was like the straw that broke the camel back. thanks buddy, your f8 spider & relax style brought me back. i m dusting off my charkuayteow plate and look forward to shoot again. my set up actually has leg but only one nia :bsmilie:

marcus, did you wash it using fabric softener with flower scent? seems the bees are attracted to it :bsmilie:

This same bee has been visiting me for some time already and it no longer fear my presence, always heading to the basin where damp table cloth was there for quenching its thirst. Maybe some pungent smell there, I dun know:bsmilie:..Yesterday I noticed the bee flew in and out several time and that was when I have my camera ready and all the shots taken, which I posted yesterday...

Today, late noon, I saw the bee again, likely the same one. So i decided to change another table cloth, not so smelly one..;) and it rested and sips as the picture shows. So its purple color table cloth and thereafter I changed to another orange color table cloth, the bee did not rest on the latest one but flew out..

tomoro, I believe the bee will come back and I shalll be ready, battery fully charged and diffusers ready to capture the best perspetive possible.

one more shot..

That's a good one, keeping your own pet bee!! No wonder you can get such sharp image at 1/50s shutter speed.

Take part in another photo competition. Although didn’t manage to win anything this round, one of the photo submitted was select to be exhibit at Garden by the bay :)
Still something to be happy about
