With 3rd party adapter, max flash sync speed is 1/15 ('dismal')
But for macro its usually ok.
1. Iso125, f8 -usually the ambient does not add to the exposure. Only the flash does, and that is independant of shutter speed
2. Use tripod and timer or remote

yes, the max sync speed is indeed a limitation - i am tempted but this deters me. hope pentax would come up with a first party adaptor that supports up to 1/180 sync speed and capture exif data that would be truly awesome.

Just get it lah!
Its not as bad as it sounds.

The 1/15 is negligible since the flash is instantaneous and stops motion.
The tripod further improves on this.

Working distance for the magnification gained and no need for extension tubes or close up lenses is a godsend with the Q.


If wait for Pentax, I don't know when it will happen, as you know they are famous for moonwalk (ie. shuffling of feet) and getting products to market late when everyone else has 'improved' on their initial (very good) ideas.
Get the 3rd party adapter and enjoy the camera now.

There were some logs where bicycle tracks came out from the side path, that's where there was quite some insects like wasps, bees, spiders etc.. I used to station within this area for macro shooting. Your char kway teow diffuser is doing fine..

Thanks, JK. I'm stocking the char kway teow plates, nowadays quite hard to source, most shops sell the plastic or paper ones :bsmilie:

Those Panagors also come in many brands such as Soligor, Admiral, Tanqueray, still quite underrated I guess

Nice shots, Imam,but flash light seems a little harsh.. HIgh iso?.... Yup the same insects wood wasps and others often found at the logs. Also hammer head flies can be found here too.

yes marcus, today I use only 1 char kway teow plate cause It's longer lens, yest I used two plates, both using AF200FGZ at full power. I bumped the ISO till 800-1600 to get brighter background.

today didn't see the wood wasps and hammer head flies, perhaps will visit again next week, hope the baby robberfly eat much within this week and become bigger :bsmilie:
