Will B&W treatment work for this? Curious.

Good work as usual. :)

It can, but I thought keeping a cool tone and near-monotone image would bring out the mood I wanted better. :)

Here's a quick take of the BnW approach I might take... Though I would probably work a bit more on the tones to bring out the structure more vividly. :)

Sky was pretty boring on Tuesday for any sunset or twilight , hence decided to wait a little bit longer to capture some city light -

Rush to meet kent for dinner after this shots

2 image DRI to retain the detail of individual building light .

This is something I always struggle with.. bringing out the structure/tonal differences in a B&W image without making everything black black (sorry very new to this PP thing). How would you go abt doing this beyond the usual contrast/curves adjustments? do you locally brush on adjustments too? :dunno:

Some shots taken in Florentia Villiage of Tianjin, an Italian-inspired designer outlet of its kind .

This time got a liitle bit of time using tripod but I didn't bring it along, thinking could be very crowded, no chance to use it.

It depends, but usually I don't shoot scenes in BnW unless I think the scene can offer a good conversion without too much work like burning and dodging everywhere..

If I'm particular I will take the trouble to achieve a good output through CHannel Mixer and very fine adjustments through curves and/or layers for selective application; otherwise, Silver Efex Pro offers a very very quick shortcut and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants decent enough (not absolutely the best because it's still relatively automated but close enough considering the time spent) BnW conversions without too much work. These days I use a mix, I'd say 50-50..

Sometimes when the scene would be good in BnW but the light isn't the best, then putting out two or more BnW conversions and layering them to select the particular parts of tones you like is something I do as well. Seldom though, it's such a hassle to have to check the large version. :bsmilie:

Hope this helps.

Dunno correct place or not to post. But in short DIY a diffuser for my Pentax Q. Here are the preliminary results. Flash used is a Metz 20 C-2.

Photo from my holiday a few months ago. K-x with Sigma 30. The lens has quite a bad rep for lacking corner sharpness, but for a hobbyist, I think its not too bad :)

Thanks for sharing.

You may want to use a hood on the lens or block off the diffused light coming from under the diffuser.
I think its causing haze/flare on the sample photo.

You may want to try bouncing the flash as well. If your flash cannot swivel, you can make a reflective card with card and aluminum foil.
In a pinch, I've even went into the kitchen (my mom's place) and used a shinny pot cover.

Simon; Supermeng; Liban nice landscape shots!

Hehe that is the flash bounce already. >_<" Yeah will modify and add something to bounce the light coming out downwards back up. Thanks for the idea.
