I normally do not do noise reduction as it will cause loss in details, contrally I will sharpen and crop a bit which may cause noise to be more obvious

Here is one at iso 1600 which hardly any noise at all

Probably will try some at iso 10000 over the coming weekend

now that just makes me feel a little sad abt my k-x. haha i guess this is just one of the many reasons the k5 cost more than 2x more!

Some captures from National Parks of Thailand last week. The 1st National Park is 500km from Bangkok where we set off from..
Went to a total of 3 parks travelling >1500km by rented car.

that's awesome! I've rarely gone beyond 1600 on my k-x. Is the high iso capability of the K5 that much better? was any fancy noise reduction done in post for these 2 photos?

I did some selective noise removal from CS5 while trying to maintain the sharpness, no other noise removal software used. :)

Thanks Toh.
For the white collared kingfisher, they are the most common kingfishers here.
The best place to shoot them is at Chinese Garden around the pagoda tower. They are very friendly and is good for practising your shots.
For the 2 pics you posted, try to shoot with eye contact, preferably at a lower level if possible. Avoid backlight and harsh sunlight.

This pic was shot at a lower level:

The best time to photograph this bird is between 7-9am where you can see the bird fly to the ground to look for food.

Can even shoot them in flight..

Thanks Ken, I will take your advise and shoot more. I like this kingfisher in flight not easy to take and it is beautiful.:)

Finally can post something with my Pentax cameras now that they're back from servicing
