Donald,

Seems that you are enjoying your new baby;)

Attended my friend wedding as a brother, first time shooting a wedding, although not as a main photographer, just some random shots with abit of time that i squeeze out. Some images are pretty poor as i don't have a flash with me.

Click for the larger picture. Not very creatives and artistic photos. But i am still picking up the hobby and trying to improve on technical aspects.

Stray cats can be cool and cute too!

Took this today in mandai, opposite orchidville.

AMS, learnt this phrase from our honourable macro shooter Seefei and I am just facinated at this spider that mimics like ant, inhabiting within leaves and feasting on unsuspecting ants and other insects as food.

Slow shutter speed 1/25, flash light, f11, tripod. A200 macro f4 with 33 mm tubes. uncroped.

as promised earlier, some samples taken with the latest macro lens in my dry cabinet.

its not really the absolute best pictures i've ever taken. its just a quick night-shoot after work at the park connector near my place to test the handling of the lens.

i must say, the handling is beautiful. the focusing ring is smooth, the focus throw allows very fine control and the lens has a very nice working distance of 0.38m at 1:1 magnification.

ultimately, no matter what lens one uses, the same challenges remain: shallow DOF at high magnification, producing even and well diffused soft lighting.

the problem is compounded at night, when you can't really see your subject properly.

macro has been, and always will be more of a test of one's technique than the quality of one's equipment ;)

all pix are just re-sized, not cropped.

#1 - 1:1 magnification

#2 - check out the bokeh

Shot on a Kx using the venerable F100/2.8 macro. Metz48 on-camera with large bounce card.

Jumping Spider (Orange)

Again with the same setup
Kx, F100/2.8 macro and AFA1.7x teleconverter.
I've found that a teleconverter coupled with the macro lens gives it that wee bit more leverage when up against very small insects to increase magnification while not sacrificing flexibility unlike extension tubes and close up lenses. Works well for skittish insects as well since there is now more range (ie. 170mm macro)

Nice 1 there, JK. With the number of mosquitoes on site, I am surprised you'd the patience to execute these shots.

More coming?

Nice shots!

The flared nostrils and diamond shaped head of the snake is characteristic of a viper. VERY POISONOUS :p

I like the very diffused even lighting for the flies. What was used to diffuse it?

[edit] : Ah.. I remember now, it was that cup noodle flash diffuser. Man! its effective. :)

I kept holding my breath to take photos and avoid mozzy detection while my legs did a samba so that they'd not stick to them :bsmilie:

What did freak me out was whatever was in the shady area of the 'English Garden'. They could not be seen but the itch was a constant reminder of their presence.

Waiting for FW to start the thread ;)

In fact we were trying to make the snake change position for better angle when someone did mentioned the snake is poisonous.

Also shot another House Business with my Sigma 180, but will post after return from KL.:)
